5	5	WHEREAS, Residents of Barker lost a dedicated public servant
6	6	and beloved friend with the passing of Donald David Baker on April
7	7	2, 2008, at the age of 70; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The son of James Mayes and Anna Baker, Donald David
9	9	"Dog" Baker was born on July 7, 1937, in Las Vegas, Nevada; he and
10	10	his family later relocated to Barker, and during his youth he became
11	11	a Lone Star Farmer with the Katy FFA chapter and graduated from Katy
12	12	High School; he attended Blinn College and Trinity University
13	13	before returning to Barker and raising his three children, Debra,
14	14	Randal, and Bruce; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Mr. Baker graduated from the Houston Police Academy
16	16	in 1959; he served the department for more than two decades and was
17	17	active in the Houston Police Officers Association; after retiring
18	18	in 1980 with the rank of sergeant, he joined the Precinct One
19	19	Constable's Office of Harris County, where he worked for 14 years,
20	20	until his retirement as a deputy chief in January 2008; and
21	21	WHEREAS, A lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and
22	22	Rodeo, Mr. Baker was one of its longest-serving paid employees and
23	23	spent three decades working with its Star Security group; this
24	24	memorable assignment allowed him to meet country music entertainers
25	25	such as Willie Nelson and Charley Pride, many of whom became his
26	26	good friends; Mr. Baker had close acquaintances in other walks of
27	27	life as well and seemed to know people everywhere he went; he often
28	28	gathered with his friends for favorite activities, including
29	29	playing golf, and also took great pleasure in raising animals on his
30	30	farm; in addition to caring for his horses, cattle, and pigs, he
31	31	loved feeding wild birds and spending time with his pet cockatiel;
32	32	and
33	33	WHEREAS, Cherished for his unforgettable grin and gentle
34	34	spirit, David Baker enriched the lives of countless individuals
35	35	with his kindness, and he will forever hold a treasured place in the
36	36	hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now,
37	37	therefore, be it
38	38	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
39	39	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Donald David Baker and
40	40	extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
41	41	Lyn Baker; to his daughter, Debra Larsen; to his son, Bruce Baker,
42	42	and his wife, Terrie; to his mother, Anna Baker; to his
43	43	grandchildren, Kristi, Cameron, Hayden, and Riley Baker, and
44	44	Heather Anderson and her husband, Roger; to his brothers, Alva
45	45	Baker and his wife, Charlotte, and Bill Baker and his wife, Joyce;
46	46	to his sister, Linda Rasbury, and her husband, Guinn; to his five
47	47	great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends;
48	48	and, be it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
50	50	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
51	51	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donald
52	52	David Baker.
