44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The City of Irving is marking the advent of an
66 exciting new era in transportation and economic growth with a
77 groundbreaking ceremony for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Orange
88 Line on April 13, 2009; and
99 WHEREAS, The Orange Line is a key component of a regional rail
1010 expansion that will lead to the doubling of DART's rail network by
1111 2013; the line will run parallel with the Green Line through
1212 downtown Dallas to Bachman Station in Northwest Dallas before
1313 branching off to the northwest; construction, taking place in
1414 stages, is scheduled to reach the Las Colinas Urban Center in 2011
1515 and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 2013; and
1616 WHEREAS, Working in close partnership with DART, Irving
1717 officials have dedicated enormous amounts of time and energy to
1818 this vital mass transit project, which will connect business
1919 centers, medical facilities, institutions of higher education, and
2020 new transit villages to downtown Dallas and DFW; city leaders are
2121 working diligently to maximize the economic impact of the Orange
2222 Line by promoting mixed-use development within a quarter-mile of
2323 each of Irving's eight DART transit stations; and
2424 WHEREAS, Millions of private sector dollars have been
2525 designated for new development projects, and more than $4 billion
2626 in new commercial, office, entertainment, and residential
2727 developments will be sited along the rail line; the Orange Line will
2828 spur creation of thousands of new jobs and improve access to
2929 better-paying jobs for residents of historically disadvantaged
3030 areas, while making the pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods of the
3131 Las Colinas Urban Center more convenient to those who live in
3232 Dallas, Plano, Richardson, and Carrollton-Farmers Branch; and
3333 WHEREAS, Rail service is critical for the Dallas-Fort Worth
3434 Metroplex as its population continues to expand; by promoting
3535 economic growth in walkable urban neighborhoods and linking popular
3636 destinations, the Orange Line will decrease traffic congestion and
3737 air pollution and improve quality of life throughout the entire
3838 North Texas region; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby commemorate the groundbreaking for the Orange
4141 Line in Irving on April 13, 2009, and extend sincere
4242 congratulations to the City of Irving and to Dallas Area Rapid
4343 Transit; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for the City of Irving as an expression of high regard by
4646 the Texas House of Representatives.
