| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Roland Sandoval of Sandra Day O'Connor High School |

| 6 | 6 | | was inducted as a member of the international bandmasters' |

| 7 | 7 | | fraternity Phi Beta Mu on February 14, 2009; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Candidates for Phi Beta Mu must have at least 10 |

| 9 | 9 | | years of successful teaching experience and must direct a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | consistently outstanding public school band program; Mr. Sandoval |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | served previously as bandmaster at schools in Kingsville, Hondo, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and San Antonio before beginning his 11-year tenure at O'Connor |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | High in Helotes; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sandoval was sponsored by three active members |

| 15 | 15 | | of Phi Beta Mu, Ronnie Rios, Rolando Molina, and Jim Cain, and he |

| 16 | 16 | | underwent a yearlong evaluation of his contributions to his |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | students and to music education before his election as a member; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, School band programs are a vital part of the public |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | education system of the Lone Star State, and Roland Sandoval |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | continues to provide exemplary inspiration and direction to those |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | students who have the good fortune to participate in the band |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | program at O'Connor High School; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Roland Sandoval on his election to |

| 25 | 25 | | Phi Beta Mu and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
