 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The city of Houston lost an admired business leader
 with the passing of Lee Price Moncrief on July 27, 2008, at the age
 of 57; and
 WHEREAS, The son of Rosemary Drennan and George Price
 Moncrief, Lee Moncrief was born on July 12, 1951, in Colorado City,
 Texas; he spent much of his childhood in the southern part of the
 state, but his father's work as a petroleum engineer also took the
 family to Tyler and to McComb, Mississippi, during Lee's youth; he
 graduated from McAllen High School in 1969 and then studied at Texas
 A&M University before earning a degree in business from The
 University of Texas at Austin in 1974; and
 WHEREAS, Moving to Houston in the mid-1970s, he embarked on a
 successful career in the energy industry that spanned 33 years;
 specializing in the areas of finance, investment banking, and asset
 management, he ultimately helped found Moncrief Willingham Energy
 Advisors in 1999; in addition, he served as the investment manager
 of HedgeEnergy and was a member of the Independent Petroleum
 Association of America for 20 years; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Moncrief was joined in matrimony to Nancy
 Eversole in 1976, beginning their 32 years together; Mr. Moncrief
 was deeply devoted to his family, which came to include four sons,
 Lee, Logan, Matthew, and Andrew, and he took great delight in the
 many activities they shared together; and
 WHEREAS, Possessing an enduring love of the ocean, Mr.
 Moncrief was an avid sailor who held a 100-ton captain's license and
 piloted his boat, Regency, to a variety of destinations, including
 ports of call in New England, Florida, and the Caribbean; his
 interest in nautical endeavors was recognized with his commission
 as an admiral in the Texas Navy; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Moncrief further indulged his enjoyment of the
 outdoors through his hobbies of fishing, rafting, camping, hiking,
 and golf; he also relished the opportunities he had to travel
 throughout the United States and to visit foreign countries; and
 WHEREAS, This respected and influential Texan was active in a
 variety of organizations; a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of
 America, he served as scoutmaster and committee chair of Troop 55
 and as a member of the board of directors of the Sam Houston Area
 Council; his involvement with The University of Texas included
 membership in the Hermes Society of the McCombs School of Business,
 the Longfellow Society, the UT Golf Club, Texas Exes, and the
 executive committee of the Chancellor's Council; moreover, he
 belonged to the Roaring Fork Club, the Lakewood Yacht Club, and the
 Houston City Club; and
 WHEREAS, Although his time on this earth ended far too soon,
 Lee Moncrief lived a caring and purposeful life that balanced
 professional success with an abiding commitment to his loved ones,
 and his achievements will long be treasured by those who had the
 good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lee Price Moncrief and
 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 Nancy; to his sons, Lee Price Moncrief, Jr., and his wife, Brooke,
 Logan Anderson Moncrief, Matthew Henry Hunter Moncrief, and Andrew
 Sharp Moncrief; to his sister, Marcia Moncrief Goodless, and her
 husband, Michael; to his mother-in-law, Mrs. Henry W. Eversole; to
 his brother-in-law, Henry W. Eversole, Jr., and his wife, Merry
 Jane; to his sister-in-law, Lona Eversole Forester; to his uncle,
 Joseph Moncrief, and his wife, Bette; and to his other relatives and
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lee Price
 Moncrief.
