5	5	WHEREAS, The city of Houston lost an admired business leader
6	6	with the passing of Lee Price Moncrief on July 27, 2008, at the age
7	7	of 57; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The son of Rosemary Drennan and George Price
9	9	Moncrief, Lee Moncrief was born on July 12, 1951, in Colorado City,
10	10	Texas; he spent much of his childhood in the southern part of the
11	11	state, but his father's work as a petroleum engineer also took the
12	12	family to Tyler and to McComb, Mississippi, during Lee's youth; he
13	13	graduated from McAllen High School in 1969 and then studied at Texas
14	14	A&M University before earning a degree in business from The
15	15	University of Texas at Austin in 1974; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Moving to Houston in the mid-1970s, he embarked on a
17	17	successful career in the energy industry that spanned 33 years;
18	18	specializing in the areas of finance, investment banking, and asset
19	19	management, he ultimately helped found Moncrief Willingham Energy
20	20	Advisors in 1999; in addition, he served as the investment manager
21	21	of HedgeEnergy and was a member of the Independent Petroleum
22	22	Association of America for 20 years; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Mr. Moncrief was joined in matrimony to Nancy
24	24	Eversole in 1976, beginning their 32 years together; Mr. Moncrief
25	25	was deeply devoted to his family, which came to include four sons,
26	26	Lee, Logan, Matthew, and Andrew, and he took great delight in the
27	27	many activities they shared together; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Possessing an enduring love of the ocean, Mr.
29	29	Moncrief was an avid sailor who held a 100-ton captain's license and
30	30	piloted his boat, Regency, to a variety of destinations, including
31	31	ports of call in New England, Florida, and the Caribbean; his
32	32	interest in nautical endeavors was recognized with his commission
33	33	as an admiral in the Texas Navy; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Mr. Moncrief further indulged his enjoyment of the
35	35	outdoors through his hobbies of fishing, rafting, camping, hiking,
36	36	and golf; he also relished the opportunities he had to travel
37	37	throughout the United States and to visit foreign countries; and
38	38	WHEREAS, This respected and influential Texan was active in a
39	39	variety of organizations; a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of
40	40	America, he served as scoutmaster and committee chair of Troop 55
41	41	and as a member of the board of directors of the Sam Houston Area
42	42	Council; his involvement with The University of Texas included
43	43	membership in the Hermes Society of the McCombs School of Business,
44	44	the Longfellow Society, the UT Golf Club, Texas Exes, and the
45	45	executive committee of the Chancellor's Council; moreover, he
46	46	belonged to the Roaring Fork Club, the Lakewood Yacht Club, and the
47	47	Houston City Club; and
48	48	WHEREAS, Although his time on this earth ended far too soon,
49	49	Lee Moncrief lived a caring and purposeful life that balanced
50	50	professional success with an abiding commitment to his loved ones,
51	51	and his achievements will long be treasured by those who had the
52	52	good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
53	53	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
54	54	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lee Price Moncrief and
55	55	extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
56	56	Nancy; to his sons, Lee Price Moncrief, Jr., and his wife, Brooke,
57	57	Logan Anderson Moncrief, Matthew Henry Hunter Moncrief, and Andrew
58	58	Sharp Moncrief; to his sister, Marcia Moncrief Goodless, and her
59	59	husband, Michael; to his mother-in-law, Mrs. Henry W. Eversole; to
60	60	his brother-in-law, Henry W. Eversole, Jr., and his wife, Merry
61	61	Jane; to his sister-in-law, Lona Eversole Forester; to his uncle,
62	62	Joseph Moncrief, and his wife, Bette; and to his other relatives and
63	63	friends; and, be it further
64	64	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
65	65	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
66	66	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lee Price
67	67	Moncrief.
