44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the tragic loss of
66 U.S. Army First Lieutenant Timothy Wayne Cunningham, who died on
77 April 23, 2008, at the age of 26; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment,
99 1st Combat Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort
1010 Campbell, Kentucky, Lieutenant Cunningham lost his life as a result
1111 of injuries suffered during a vehicle incident in Golden Hills,
1212 Iraq; and
1313 WHEREAS, Tim Cunningham was born in Houston on January 22,
1414 1982, to John and Cindy Cunningham; after spending his early years
1515 in Houston, Hurst, and Rusk, he moved with his family to Alvin,
1616 where he graduated from high school; and
1717 WHEREAS, During his school years, this energetic and outgoing
1818 young Texan served on the student council, participated in track
1919 and baseball, and earned membership in the National Honor Society;
2020 the son of a Baptist minister, he was also extremely involved in
2121 church activities, volunteering in the community and traveling on
2222 mission trips to Brazil and Mexico; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Cunningham attended Texas A&M on a Navy ROTC
2424 scholarship, serving as company chaplain; after a year, he decided
2525 to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, John, and entered
2626 the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he
2727 graduated in 2006 as a first lieutenant with a degree in nuclear
2828 engineering; and
2929 WHEREAS, That same year he married his high school
3030 sweetheart, the former Samantha Ann Morgenroth, and they were
3131 blessed with a daughter, Abigail, the following year; Lieutenant
3232 Cunningham went on to complete the Infantry Officer Basic Course
3333 and the Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia, before joining his
3434 brother in the 101st Airborne and deploying to Iraq; and
3535 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, his country, and his
3636 faith, Tim Cunningham will forever be remembered by all those who
3737 knew and loved him as a dedicated and compassionate young man who
3838 gave everything he had to everything he did; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of First Lieutenant
4141 Timothy Wayne Cunningham and extend sincere condolences to the
4242 members of his family: to his wife, Samantha Cunningham; to his
4343 daughter, Abigail Lynn Cunningham; to his parents, John and Cindy
4444 Cunningham; to his brother, Captain John David Cunningham, and his
4545 wife, Jamie Lynn; to his sisters, Christy Dawn, Sara Beth, and
4646 Kelsey Lynn Cunningham; to his grandparents, Wayne and Marian
4747 Cunningham and Edgar and Jean Jones; to his niece and nephew, Emily
4848 and T. J. Bolton; to his in-laws, Guy, Wanda, Dylan, Dakota, and
4949 Savannah Skinkis and Jonathan Morgenroth; and to his other
5050 relatives and friends; and, be it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5353 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Timothy
5454 Wayne Cunningham.
