5	5	WHEREAS, Our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Senfronia
6	6	Thompson, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the
7	7	second annual Annie's List Central Texas Luncheon on April 3, 2009;
8	8	and
9	9	WHEREAS, Representative Thompson is one of the founders of
10	10	Annie's List, which was created in 2003 to enhance the role of women
11	11	in Texas government by recruiting, training, and supporting
12	12	qualified candidates across the state; currently in her 17th term,
13	13	Representative Thompson has served in the Texas Legislature longer
14	14	than any other woman or African American, and she is an exemplary
15	15	role model to aspiring female politicians in the Lone Star State and
16	16	beyond; and
17	17	WHEREAS, A Houston attorney, Representative Thompson has
18	18	authored and passed more than 200 bills, and as demonstrated by her
19	19	voting record, she has remained a notable champion for equal rights
20	20	and public education; she has promoted legislation that enforces
21	21	child support, protects victims of domestic violence, prohibits
22	22	racial profiling, and brings overall benefits to women, children,
23	23	minorities, and the elderly, and she has received such accolades as
24	24	the Rosa Parks Award from the Legislative Black Caucus and
25	25	inclusion in the "Top 10 Legislators" by Texas Monthly magazine;
26	26	and
27	27	WHEREAS, With an unwavering commitment to her home state,
28	28	Senfronia Thompson has garnered the lasting respect and admiration
29	29	of her fellow citizens, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor this
30	30	dedicated public servant; now, therefore, be it
31	31	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
32	32	Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Senfronia Thompson
33	33	on her receipt of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Annie's List
34	34	and extend to her sincere appreciation for her continued service to
35	35	the State of Texas; and, be it further
36	36	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
37	37	prepared for Representative Thompson as an expression of high
38	38	regard by her colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
