44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant First
66 Class Raymond Munden suffered an immeasurable loss with the death
77 of this valiant soldier on February 16, 2009, at the age of 35; and
88 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry
99 Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division,
1010 Sergeant Munden was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan;
1111 and
1212 WHEREAS, An alumnus of Mesquite High School, Raymond Munden
1313 fulfilled a lifelong dream after his 1991 graduation when he joined
1414 the military; despite the dangerous nature of his mission, he
1515 remained devoted to serving his country throughout multiple tours
1616 in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
1717 WHEREAS, Sergeant Munden was a loving husband to his wife,
1818 Kelly, and a devoted father to his children, Gaven, Garrett,
1919 Sydney, and Kailey; his family had eagerly anticipated his
2020 stateside return, scheduled for March, when he was to assume a
2121 training assignment at West Point; and
2222 WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
2323 women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
2424 service, yet the tragic death of this brave young man is a sobering
2525 reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Raymond Munden embodied the
2626 highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and
2727 loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
2828 therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3030 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant
3131 Raymond Munden and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his
3232 wife, Kelly Munden; to his children, Gaven, Garrett, Sydney, and
3333 Kailey Munden; to his mother and stepfather, Billie and Dwaine
3434 Clark; to his father, Ralph Munden; to his brother, Brad Munden; and
3535 to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3737 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3838 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant
3939 Munden.
