| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant First |

| 6 | 6 | | Class Raymond Munden suffered an immeasurable loss with the death |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of this valiant soldier on February 16, 2009, at the age of 35; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sergeant Munden was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, An alumnus of Mesquite High School, Raymond Munden |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | fulfilled a lifelong dream after his 1991 graduation when he joined |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the military; despite the dangerous nature of his mission, he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | remained devoted to serving his country throughout multiple tours |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in Iraq and Afghanistan; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Munden was a loving husband to his wife, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Kelly, and a devoted father to his children, Gaven, Garrett, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Sydney, and Kailey; his family had eagerly anticipated his |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | stateside return, scheduled for March, when he was to assume a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | training assignment at West Point; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | service, yet the tragic death of this brave young man is a sobering |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Raymond Munden embodied the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Sergeant |

| 31 | 31 | | Raymond Munden and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his |

| 32 | 32 | | wife, Kelly Munden; to his children, Gaven, Garrett, Sydney, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Kailey Munden; to his mother and stepfather, Billie and Dwaine |
