6 | 6 | | and to the field of public health, Dr. George Benavidez of Corpus |

7 | 7 | | Christi has helped to ensure a brighter future for countless Gulf |

8 | 8 | | Coast residents; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of New Mexico School of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Pharmacy, Dr. Benavidez was active in a number of campus |
---|
11 | 11 | | organizations while pursuing his undergraduate studies; in |
---|
12 | 12 | | addition to his membership in the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical |
---|
13 | 13 | | Fraternity and Rho Chi Society, he was elected class president and |
---|
14 | 14 | | served as director of Project Porvenir, which provided vital |
---|
15 | 15 | | medical services to areas in need; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Benavidez earned both a Kappa Psi Scholarship |
---|
17 | 17 | | and an Upjohn Scholarship, and after his graduation in 1974, he |
---|
18 | 18 | | enrolled in the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he |
---|
19 | 19 | | received a National Health Service Corps Scholarship; he continued |
---|
20 | 20 | | his medical training by completing a Texas Family Practice |
---|
21 | 21 | | Residency in 1981, at The University of Texas Health Science |
---|
22 | 22 | | Center; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Benavidez has enjoyed a successful inpatient and |
---|
24 | 24 | | outpatient practice for 28 years; he is currently affiliated with |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Thomas-Spann Clinic, the HCA/Columbia Hospital System, and the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Christus Spohn Health System in Corpus Christi; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Certified to practice family medicine, he |
---|
28 | 28 | | additionally is an expert in the treatment and evaluation of |
---|
29 | 29 | | critically ill or traumatized patients; he is a member of the |
---|
30 | 30 | | American Academy of Family Physicians, American Board of Emergency |
---|
31 | 31 | | Medicine, American Medical Association, American Heart |
---|
32 | 32 | | Association, SIDS Foundation, and National Kidney Foundation; also |
---|
33 | 33 | | a valued member of the Nueces County Medical Society, he has served |
---|
34 | 34 | | the group on the Executive Board and Malpractice/Tort Reform Task |
---|
35 | 35 | | Force and as chair of Day of Awareness II and co-chair of the |

36 | 36 | | Centennial Celebration; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Dr. Benavidez has been |

38 | 38 | | honored with awards from the American Medical Association and the |
---|
39 | 39 | | American Academy of Family Physicians; and |

40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Dr. George Benavidez is an outstanding physician |
---|
41 | 41 | | whose commitment to his patients, his community, and his profession |

42 | 42 | | is truly exemplary, and he is most deserving of special |

43 | 43 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. George Benavidez for his professional |

46 | 46 | | accomplishments and dedication to excellence and extend to him |
