44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Don R. Carter, Sr., of Dallas retired from the Texas
66 Department of Criminal Justice on March 31, 2009, drawing to a close
77 a notable tenure with the State of Texas that spanned more than 30
88 years; and
99 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Mr. Carter graduated from
1010 Adamson High School and went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from
1111 East Texas State University, where he became a lifetime member of
1212 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Carter began his career in criminal justice at
1414 the age of 23; through the years, he distinguished himself in a
1515 series of positions, including those of district parole officer,
1616 unit supervisor, and parole supervisor; and
1717 WHEREAS, In 2002, Mr. Carter was named assistant regional
1818 director, and in this important post and throughout his time in
1919 state government, he has been regarded with great respect by his
2020 colleagues, and he has been a valuable asset to all of the
2121 departments in which he has served; and
2222 WHEREAS, This notable Texan demonstrated an admirable work
2323 ethic early on; as a young man, he made trips to the store for
2424 elderly residents in his neighborhood, gathered bottles, sold
2525 newspapers, and shined shoes; while in college, he sold Greek
2626 merchandise to make extra money, and for 20 years, he worked
2727 part-time as a retail sales clerk; and
2828 WHEREAS, Mr. Carter has been supported in all of his
2929 endeavors by a large and loving family, including his wife,
3030 Cocrecia, his sons, Christopher, Don, and Dondre, his daughter,
3131 Sabrina, and his three grandchildren; in his free time, he enjoys
3232 sports and cooking for his loved ones, who often request "Uncle
3333 Don's" salsa, hot pickles, and pepper sauce; and
3434 WHEREAS, Mr. Carter's dedication, professionalism, and
3535 commitment to excellence have greatly benefited his fellow Texans,
3636 and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he
3737 prepares to embark on the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
3838 therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby congratulate Don R. Carter, Sr., on his
4141 retirement from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and extend
4242 to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
4343 further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for Mr. Carter as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4646 House of Representatives.
