5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Don R. Carter, Sr., of Dallas retired from the Texas |
---|
6 | 6 | | Department of Criminal Justice on March 31, 2009, drawing to a close |
---|
7 | 7 | | a notable tenure with the State of Texas that spanned more than 30 |
---|
8 | 8 | | years; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Mr. Carter graduated from |
---|
10 | 10 | | Adamson High School and went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from |
---|
11 | 11 | | East Texas State University, where he became a lifetime member of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carter began his career in criminal justice at |
---|
14 | 14 | | the age of 23; through the years, he distinguished himself in a |
---|
15 | 15 | | series of positions, including those of district parole officer, |
---|
16 | 16 | | unit supervisor, and parole supervisor; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 2002, Mr. Carter was named assistant regional |
---|
18 | 18 | | director, and in this important post and throughout his time in |
---|
19 | 19 | | state government, he has been regarded with great respect by his |
---|
20 | 20 | | colleagues, and he has been a valuable asset to all of the |
---|
21 | 21 | | departments in which he has served; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This notable Texan demonstrated an admirable work |
---|
23 | 23 | | ethic early on; as a young man, he made trips to the store for |
---|
24 | 24 | | elderly residents in his neighborhood, gathered bottles, sold |
---|
25 | 25 | | newspapers, and shined shoes; while in college, he sold Greek |
---|
26 | 26 | | merchandise to make extra money, and for 20 years, he worked |
---|
27 | 27 | | part-time as a retail sales clerk; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carter has been supported in all of his |
---|
29 | 29 | | endeavors by a large and loving family, including his wife, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Cocrecia, his sons, Christopher, Don, and Dondre, his daughter, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Sabrina, and his three grandchildren; in his free time, he enjoys |
---|
32 | 32 | | sports and cooking for his loved ones, who often request "Uncle |
---|
33 | 33 | | Don's" salsa, hot pickles, and pepper sauce; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carter's dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited his fellow Texans, |
---|
36 | 36 | | and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he |
---|
37 | 37 | | prepares to embark on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |
---|
38 | 38 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Don R. Carter, Sr., on his |

41 | 41 | | retirement from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and extend |

42 | 42 | | to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
