5	5	WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Justin Rokohl of Orange Grove has
6	6	rendered valiant service in Iraq and Afghanistan as a member of the
7	7	United States Marine Corps; and
8	8	WHEREAS, A 2005 graduate of Orange Grove High School,
9	9	Corporal Rokohl followed a long-standing family tradition when he
10	10	joined the armed forces; trained as a machine gunner, he served in
11	11	Iraq in 2007 and has most recently been deployed to Afghanistan as a
12	12	member of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Company G,
13	13	Weapons Platoon; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Corporal Rokohl sustained serious injuries on the
15	15	morning of June 19, 2008, when the Humvee in which he was riding was
16	16	struck by an IED; blown out of the vehicle, he was pulled to safety
17	17	by fellow marines, and since then he has undergone multiple
18	18	surgeries, both in Germany and the United States; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Throughout his ordeal, Corporal Rokohl's
20	20	indomitable spirit has continued to shine through; renowned among
21	21	his family and friends for his love of life, this courageous Texan
22	22	is tackling his recovery with the same no-holds-barred
23	23	determination that he has brought to all his endeavors; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Corporal Rokohl and his family are integral members
25	25	of the Orange Grove community and the Cross Trails Cowboy Church,
26	26	and their neighbors and fellow congregants have been staunchly
27	27	supportive of their hometown hero; one measure of the esteem in
28	28	which Corporal Rokohl is held was evident in the overwhelming
29	29	response to a blood drive that was organized in his honor; people
30	30	came from as far away as Alice and Corpus Christi, and a second
31	31	blood center bus had to be called in to accommodate all those
32	32	wishing to donate; and
33	33	WHEREAS, The grit and tenacity that Justin Rokohl brings to
34	34	his work as a marine are the same qualities that led him to be named
35	35	an all-district defensive end on his high school football team;
36	36	endowed with natural athletic ability, he also ran track, and he is
37	37	currently intent on honing his roping skills; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Corporal Rokohl's devotion to service has kindled an
39	39	interest in a law enforcement career, following his return to
40	40	civilian life; he has expressed a desire to join the border patrol
41	41	and ultimately to serve as sheriff of Jim Wells County; and
42	42	WHEREAS, On July 3, 2008, President George W. Bush personally
43	43	presented a Purple Heart medal and citation to Corporal Rokohl at
44	44	the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland; and
45	45	WHEREAS, In the face of great hardship and danger, Corporal
46	46	Rokohl has embodied the highest ideals of the United States Marine
47	47	Corps, and he has earned the lasting respect and gratitude of all
48	48	Americans; now, therefore, be it
49	49	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
50	50	Legislature hereby honor Marine Lance Corporal Justin Rokohl for
51	51	his steadfast service to this country and extend to him sincere best
52	52	wishes for the future; and, be it further
53	53	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
54	54	prepared for Corporal Rokohl as an expression of high regard by the
55	55	Texas House of Representatives.
