44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Justin Rokohl of Orange Grove has
66 rendered valiant service in Iraq and Afghanistan as a member of the
77 United States Marine Corps; and
88 WHEREAS, A 2005 graduate of Orange Grove High School,
99 Corporal Rokohl followed a long-standing family tradition when he
1010 joined the armed forces; trained as a machine gunner, he served in
1111 Iraq in 2007 and has most recently been deployed to Afghanistan as a
1212 member of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Company G,
1313 Weapons Platoon; and
1414 WHEREAS, Corporal Rokohl sustained serious injuries on the
1515 morning of June 19, 2008, when the Humvee in which he was riding was
1616 struck by an IED; blown out of the vehicle, he was pulled to safety
1717 by fellow marines, and since then he has undergone multiple
1818 surgeries, both in Germany and the United States; and
1919 WHEREAS, Throughout his ordeal, Corporal Rokohl's
2020 indomitable spirit has continued to shine through; renowned among
2121 his family and friends for his love of life, this courageous Texan
2222 is tackling his recovery with the same no-holds-barred
2323 determination that he has brought to all his endeavors; and
2424 WHEREAS, Corporal Rokohl and his family are integral members
2525 of the Orange Grove community and the Cross Trails Cowboy Church,
2626 and their neighbors and fellow congregants have been staunchly
2727 supportive of their hometown hero; one measure of the esteem in
2828 which Corporal Rokohl is held was evident in the overwhelming
2929 response to a blood drive that was organized in his honor; people
3030 came from as far away as Alice and Corpus Christi, and a second
3131 blood center bus had to be called in to accommodate all those
3232 wishing to donate; and
3333 WHEREAS, The grit and tenacity that Justin Rokohl brings to
3434 his work as a marine are the same qualities that led him to be named
3535 an all-district defensive end on his high school football team;
3636 endowed with natural athletic ability, he also ran track, and he is
3737 currently intent on honing his roping skills; and
3838 WHEREAS, Corporal Rokohl's devotion to service has kindled an
3939 interest in a law enforcement career, following his return to
4040 civilian life; he has expressed a desire to join the border patrol
4141 and ultimately to serve as sheriff of Jim Wells County; and
4242 WHEREAS, On July 3, 2008, President George W. Bush personally
4343 presented a Purple Heart medal and citation to Corporal Rokohl at
4444 the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland; and
4545 WHEREAS, In the face of great hardship and danger, Corporal
4646 Rokohl has embodied the highest ideals of the United States Marine
4747 Corps, and he has earned the lasting respect and gratitude of all
4848 Americans; now, therefore, be it
4949 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
5050 Legislature hereby honor Marine Lance Corporal Justin Rokohl for
5151 his steadfast service to this country and extend to him sincere best
5252 wishes for the future; and, be it further
5353 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5454 prepared for Corporal Rokohl as an expression of high regard by the
5555 Texas House of Representatives.
