5	5	WHEREAS, The family and friends of Roman Martinez of Houston
6	6	were greatly saddened by his passing on February 24, 2009, at the
7	7	age of 92; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born on August 9, 1916, in Shiner, Roman Martinez
9	9	was the son of Octaviano and Victoria Martinez and enjoyed the
10	10	companionship of 13 brothers and sisters; and
11	11	WHEREAS, He worked for a cotton mill in Cuero until 1972 and
12	12	later was employed by Bowen Tools in Houston, where he retired; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez shared a fulfilling union with his
14	14	first wife, Cecilia, that spanned 47 years, until the time of her
15	15	passing; fortunate to find love a second time, he enjoyed a
16	16	rewarding marriage with Elena Martinez and delighted in their
17	17	extensive circle of family and friends; an active and vigorous man,
18	18	he was an avid gardener and found pleasure in working in his yard;
19	19	and
20	20	WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Roman Martinez lived a full
21	21	and generous life, and he will forever hold a treasured place in the
22	22	hearts of his loved ones; now, therefore, be it
23	23	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
24	24	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roman Martinez and
25	25	extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
26	26	Elena Martinez; to his children, C. G. Chon and his wife, Mary,
27	27	Janie Jimenez and her husband, Jose, former state representative
28	28	Roman Martinez and his wife, former state representative Diana
29	29	Davila Martinez, and Owen Martinez; to his grandchildren, Angela
30	30	and her husband, Stephen, Sarah, Joe Henry and his wife, Norma,
31	31	Larry, Rita, Therese, Halina, Eva, Diego, and Andres; to his
32	32	great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jeannette, Esmeralda, and Sammy; to
33	33	his brothers, Mariano and Juan Salazar; and to his other relatives
34	34	and friends; and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
36	36	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
37	37	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roman
38	38	Martinez.
