| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Liz Adetiba of James L. Coble Middle School in |

| 6 | 6 | | Arlington took first place honors in the 2009 Fort Worth |

| 7 | 7 | | Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An eighth-grader at the school, this talented |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 14-year-old had already won the JCMS Spelling Bee in January and the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Area 11 Spelling Bee in February; in 2006, when she was 11, she went |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | all the way to the national competition; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Miss Adetiba competed against 31 students from area |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | schools in a tough contest that lasted 29 rounds, the highest number |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of rounds in the bee's recent history; she prevailed throughout by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | correctly spelling such words as "sorghum," "estuary," "tillage," |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | "reticulated," and "alexia"; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, After 3 hours and 285 words, Miss Adetiba triumphed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by correctly spelling "impetigo," and her victory qualifies her to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Washington, D.C.; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Miss Adetiba's ability, determination, and poise |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | under pressure are impressive, and she may indeed look forward to a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | future that is bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Liz Adetiba on winning the 2009 |

| 26 | 26 | | Fort Worth Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee and extend to her |
