44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Liz Adetiba of James L. Coble Middle School in
66 Arlington took first place honors in the 2009 Fort Worth
77 Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee; and
88 WHEREAS, An eighth-grader at the school, this talented
99 14-year-old had already won the JCMS Spelling Bee in January and the
1010 Area 11 Spelling Bee in February; in 2006, when she was 11, she went
1111 all the way to the national competition; and
1212 WHEREAS, Miss Adetiba competed against 31 students from area
1313 schools in a tough contest that lasted 29 rounds, the highest number
1414 of rounds in the bee's recent history; she prevailed throughout by
1515 correctly spelling such words as "sorghum," "estuary," "tillage,"
1616 "reticulated," and "alexia"; and
1717 WHEREAS, After 3 hours and 285 words, Miss Adetiba triumphed
1818 by correctly spelling "impetigo," and her victory qualifies her to
1919 participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in
2020 Washington, D.C.; and
2121 WHEREAS, Miss Adetiba's ability, determination, and poise
2222 under pressure are impressive, and she may indeed look forward to a
2323 future that is bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2525 Legislature hereby congratulate Liz Adetiba on winning the 2009
2626 Fort Worth Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee and extend to her
2727 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2828 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2929 prepared for Miss Adetiba as an expression of high regard by the
3030 Texas House of Representatives.
