| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Matthew Sanchez, a senior at Communications Arts |

| 6 | 6 | | High School in San Antonio, has deservedly been named a scholar |

| 7 | 7 | | finalist in the 2008-2009 National Hispanic Recognition Program; |

| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An initiative of the College Board, the National |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Hispanic Recognition Program honors those Hispanic students who |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Test and who maintain a satisfactory grade point average; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The son of Cynthia Sanchez, this outstanding young |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Texan participates in many extracurricular activities; he is a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | member of the Film Club, the Junior Engineering Technical Society, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and the school teams for the University Interscholastic League math |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and science competitions; moreover, he has served as treasurer and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | concertmaster of the school orchestra, contributed to the Bob Beard |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Elementary School Carnival, and donated his time as a caregiver for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the disabled, among other pursuits; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez has garnered several distinctions in his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | academic career, including gold medals for solo and ensemble |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | orchestral performance and admission into the Region 11 and Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Honor Orchestras; a member of the National Honor Society, he has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | earned a notable grade point average of 94.0 and plans to further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his education at Texas A&M University; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Soon to embark on an exciting new chapter in his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | life, Matthew Sanchez may indeed reflect with pride on his numerous |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | accomplishments and look with anticipation toward a bright and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | promising future; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Sanchez on his selection as |
