5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Clester Ray Moore of Kountze on February 13, 2009; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, "Buddy" Moore was a longtime resident of Kountze and |
---|
8 | 8 | | an admired newspaperman who entered the business as an apprentice |
---|
9 | 9 | | at the age of 12; he began writing his trademark column, "Sports |
---|
10 | 10 | | Galore, by C. R. Moore," just two years later; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan worked at several newspapers, |
---|
12 | 12 | | including the Orange Leader, the Houston Post, and the Augusta |
---|
13 | 13 | | Chronicle in Georgia, and he also created the paper that would |
---|
14 | 14 | | become the Hardin County News; his true passion in publishing was |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Kountze News, which he bought in 1974; under his guidance, the |
---|
16 | 16 | | paper helped focus widespread attention on his beloved hometown by |
---|
17 | 17 | | promoting tourism events, advocating for local causes, and |
---|
18 | 18 | | publishing quirky and entertaining stories that delighted its |
---|
19 | 19 | | readers; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Moore enjoyed the love |
---|
21 | 21 | | and support of his wife, Jeanie, with whom he raised a loving family |
---|
22 | 22 | | that grew to include two children and a grandchild; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of |
---|
24 | 24 | | one man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on |
---|
25 | 25 | | the world as they move through it, and Buddy Moore had an enduring |
---|
26 | 26 | | influence on the Kountze community that continues to resonate among |
---|
27 | 27 | | the city's residents; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clester Ray Moore and |
---|
30 | 30 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Jeanie; to his daughters, Cherrye and her husband, Peppe, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | Charlee; to his grandson, Cole; to his brother, Jack, and his wife, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Peggy; to his in-laws, Ernest and Shirley Cherry, Debra Alegre and |
---|
34 | 34 | | her husband, Butch, Catherine Manshack, Monese Odom and her |
---|
35 | 35 | | husband, Randy, Scottie and his wife, Pam, and Ernest Cherry, Jr.; |
