44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the
66 passing of Clester Ray Moore of Kountze on February 13, 2009; and
77 WHEREAS, "Buddy" Moore was a longtime resident of Kountze and
88 an admired newspaperman who entered the business as an apprentice
99 at the age of 12; he began writing his trademark column, "Sports
1010 Galore, by C. R. Moore," just two years later; and
1111 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan worked at several newspapers,
1212 including the Orange Leader, the Houston Post, and the Augusta
1313 Chronicle in Georgia, and he also created the paper that would
1414 become the Hardin County News; his true passion in publishing was
1515 the Kountze News, which he bought in 1974; under his guidance, the
1616 paper helped focus widespread attention on his beloved hometown by
1717 promoting tourism events, advocating for local causes, and
1818 publishing quirky and entertaining stories that delighted its
1919 readers; and
2020 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Moore enjoyed the love
2121 and support of his wife, Jeanie, with whom he raised a loving family
2222 that grew to include two children and a grandchild; and
2323 WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of
2424 one man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on
2525 the world as they move through it, and Buddy Moore had an enduring
2626 influence on the Kountze community that continues to resonate among
2727 the city's residents; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2929 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clester Ray Moore and
3030 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
3131 Jeanie; to his daughters, Cherrye and her husband, Peppe, and
3232 Charlee; to his grandson, Cole; to his brother, Jack, and his wife,
3333 Peggy; to his in-laws, Ernest and Shirley Cherry, Debra Alegre and
3434 her husband, Butch, Catherine Manshack, Monese Odom and her
3535 husband, Randy, Scottie and his wife, Pam, and Ernest Cherry, Jr.;
3636 and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3939 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Buddy
4040 Moore.
