| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of San Antonio came together on March 30, |

| 6 | 6 | | 2009, to celebrate the opening of the Elvira Cisneros Senior |

| 7 | 7 | | Community Center; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Established by WellMed, the center offers |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | activities to benefit the minds, bodies, and spirits of its |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | patrons; in addition to workout equipment and daily exercise |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | classes, members may enjoy movies, games, and arts and crafts; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The facility was named in honor of San Antonio civic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | leader Elvira Cisneros, who has shared her time with many worthy |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | endeavors, including AVANCE, a nonprofit agency that provides |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | parent-child support and education services to high-risk, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | low-income families; her outstanding efforts have earned her such |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | prestigious honors as the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Centennial |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Award from President Gerald Ford and a medal for her work with |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | National Easter Seals from President Ronald Reagan; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The opening of the Elvira Cisneros Senior Community |

| 21 | 21 | | Center is an important occasion for the city of San Antonio and its |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | residents, and the celebration provides a fitting opportunity to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | recognize this notable facility and the services that it will |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | offer; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the Elvira |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Cisneros Senior Community Center and extend to all associated with |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the center sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
