5	5	WHEREAS, Through his dedicated service in local government
6	6	and on citizen boards, Bob Whistler has made a meaningful
7	7	difference in the city of Bedford; and
8	8	WHEREAS, A resident of the community since 1995, Mr. Whistler
9	9	first became a member of the Parks and Recreation Board beginning in
10	10	July 1996 and served as its chair from May 1999 to April of the
11	11	following year; and
12	12	WHEREAS, In May 2005, this committed civic leader was elected
13	13	as Place 6 representative on the Bedford City Council; during his
14	14	three-year term on the council, he ably carried out his
15	15	responsibilities in helping enact legislation, adopt city budgets,
16	16	and determine policies; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Mr. Whistler has devoted his time and talents to
18	18	other initiatives as well; in March 2008, he was elected as the
19	19	District 3 legislator for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, becoming
20	20	the first person to represent some 2,400 members of that Native
21	21	American group who live outside the nation's territorial land
22	22	reserve in Oklahoma; he is beginning his second term in that office
23	23	in June 2009; and
24	24	WHEREAS, These public service achievements follow on Mr.
25	25	Whistler's long and accomplished career in the airline
26	26	transportation industry; he spent 9 years with United Airlines and
27	27	36 years with American Airlines, which included assignments in a
28	28	number of U.S. cities; his willingness to give back to the
29	29	communities where he resided was evident in the many volunteer
30	30	activities he undertook, serving as a PTA president and Junior
31	31	Achievement advisor in Los Angeles and as a member of the board of
32	32	directors for both the Kentuckiana Boy Scouts of America in
33	33	Kentucky and the Urban League of Greater Richmond, Virginia;
34	34	moreover, after settling in Texas, he was the commodore of the
35	35	American Airlines Sailing Club in 2006 and 2007 and guided the
36	36	organization's efforts to maintain sailing craft for the University
37	37	of Dallas and to train individuals in nautical skills; and
38	38	WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoys the love and
39	39	support of his wife, Linda, his daughters, Michelle and Kimberly,
40	40	and his granddaughter, Lexi; and
41	41	WHEREAS, Bob Whistler's determined work in the community has
42	42	helped make Bedford an even better place to live, and his efforts
43	43	are greatly appreciated by his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be
44	44	it
45	45	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
46	46	Legislature hereby honor Bob Whistler for his community service in
47	47	the city of Bedford and for his volunteer accomplishments and
48	48	extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
49	49	happiness; and, be it further
50	50	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
51	51	prepared for Mr. Whistler as an expression of high regard by the
52	52	Texas House of Representatives.
