44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Veteran band director Don Hood of Angleton has been
66 honored with induction into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame; and
77 WHEREAS, The hall of fame pays tribute to retired band
88 directors who have contributed greatly to their schools and
99 communities; Mr. Hood was nominated for this prestigious accolade
1010 by his former students and was formally inducted at the Texas
1111 Bandmasters Association convention in San Antonio in July 2008; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Hood was a band director for 20 years; under his
1313 leadership in the 1970s, the Angleton High School bands frequently
1414 took part in halftime shows at Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers
1515 football games; these performances were often featured on national
1616 television and included as many as 400 students completing
1717 precision military marching routines; and
1818 WHEREAS, The outstanding ensembles directed by Mr. Hood won
1919 the Tournament of Roses marching band contest, performed for the
2020 opening ceremonies of the New Orleans Superdome, and won best of
2121 class at Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Over Georgia; in the
2222 span of two decades, his bands won 50 first division ratings from
2323 the University Interscholastic League; and
2424 WHEREAS, After leaving his position as band director, Mr.
2525 Hood went on to become a much-loved and admired principal for
2626 elementary and kindergarten students; he retired in 2002 after a
2727 40-year career in education; and
2828 WHEREAS, This dedicated and talented man continues to
2929 volunteer his time to help local band directors, and he assists the
3030 Angleton Alumni Band in presenting a halftime performance at one of
3131 the school's football games each season; and
3232 WHEREAS, Don Hood's leadership and enthusiasm inspired
3333 decades of Angleton students to strive for excellence, not only in
3434 band performances but also in the classroom and in their later
3535 pursuits; his contributions have touched the lives of many people,
3636 and the special recognition he has received is richly deserved;
3737 now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3939 Legislature hereby congratulate Don Hood on his induction into the
4040 Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame and commend him for his lifetime of
4141 service to his school district and his community; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for Mr. Hood as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4444 House of Representatives.
