5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Veteran band director Don Hood of Angleton has been |
---|
6 | 6 | | honored with induction into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The hall of fame pays tribute to retired band |
---|
8 | 8 | | directors who have contributed greatly to their schools and |
---|
9 | 9 | | communities; Mr. Hood was nominated for this prestigious accolade |
---|
10 | 10 | | by his former students and was formally inducted at the Texas |
---|
11 | 11 | | Bandmasters Association convention in San Antonio in July 2008; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hood was a band director for 20 years; under his |
---|
13 | 13 | | leadership in the 1970s, the Angleton High School bands frequently |
---|
14 | 14 | | took part in halftime shows at Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers |
---|
15 | 15 | | football games; these performances were often featured on national |
---|
16 | 16 | | television and included as many as 400 students completing |
---|
17 | 17 | | precision military marching routines; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The outstanding ensembles directed by Mr. Hood won |
---|
19 | 19 | | the Tournament of Roses marching band contest, performed for the |
---|
20 | 20 | | opening ceremonies of the New Orleans Superdome, and won best of |
---|
21 | 21 | | class at Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Over Georgia; in the |
---|
22 | 22 | | span of two decades, his bands won 50 first division ratings from |
---|
23 | 23 | | the University Interscholastic League; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, After leaving his position as band director, Mr. |
---|
25 | 25 | | Hood went on to become a much-loved and admired principal for |
---|
26 | 26 | | elementary and kindergarten students; he retired in 2002 after a |
---|
27 | 27 | | 40-year career in education; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This dedicated and talented man continues to |
---|
29 | 29 | | volunteer his time to help local band directors, and he assists the |
---|
30 | 30 | | Angleton Alumni Band in presenting a halftime performance at one of |
---|
31 | 31 | | the school's football games each season; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Don Hood's leadership and enthusiasm inspired |
---|
33 | 33 | | decades of Angleton students to strive for excellence, not only in |
---|
34 | 34 | | band performances but also in the classroom and in their later |
---|
35 | 35 | | pursuits; his contributions have touched the lives of many people, |
---|
36 | 36 | | and the special recognition he has received is richly deserved; |
---|
37 | 37 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Don Hood on his induction into the |
---|
40 | 40 | | Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame and commend him for his lifetime of |
---|
41 | 41 | | service to his school district and his community; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
43 | 43 | | prepared for Mr. Hood as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
