44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, For each of the past 61 years, the YMCAs of Texas
66 have sponsored a youth and government program for the purpose of
77 training the state's youth in the process of representative
88 government and democracy; and
99 WHEREAS, Participants are elected by their local YMCA youth
1010 clubs or high schools, and preparatory district conferences set
1111 agendas for the annual program and acquaint the youth with
1212 governmental processes; and
1313 WHEREAS, Plans are currently under way for the 62nd and 63rd
1414 annual Texas YMCA Model Legislatures and Judicial Sessions to be
1515 held in Austin; contemplated dates for those sessions are Thursday
1616 through Sunday, January 22-25, 2009, and Thursday through Sunday,
1717 January 21-24, 2010, with opening sessions each year planned for
1818 the first evening and mock legislative sessions and mock court
1919 hearings planned for the following two days; and
2020 WHEREAS, The YMCA Youth and Government Program provides a
2121 valuable and comprehensive educational experience, and the
2222 legislature supports the ideals of this worthy program as a means of
2323 developing an informed citizenry and as a training ground for
2424 future state officials; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2626 Legislature, in accordance with the house rules of procedure and
2727 policies of the House Administration Committee, hereby grant
2828 permission to the YMCA Youth and Government Program to use the
2929 chamber of the House of Representatives on January 22-25, 2009, and
3030 January 21-24, 2010, unless the Texas House of Representatives is
3131 in session on those dates.
