| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For each of the past 61 years, the YMCAs of Texas |

| 6 | 6 | | have sponsored a youth and government program for the purpose of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | training the state's youth in the process of representative |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | government and democracy; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Participants are elected by their local YMCA youth |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | clubs or high schools, and preparatory district conferences set |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | agendas for the annual program and acquaint the youth with |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | governmental processes; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Plans are currently under way for the 62nd and 63rd |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | annual Texas YMCA Model Legislatures and Judicial Sessions to be |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | held in Austin; contemplated dates for those sessions are Thursday |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | through Sunday, January 22-25, 2009, and Thursday through Sunday, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | January 21-24, 2010, with opening sessions each year planned for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the first evening and mock legislative sessions and mock court |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | hearings planned for the following two days; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The YMCA Youth and Government Program provides a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | valuable and comprehensive educational experience, and the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | legislature supports the ideals of this worthy program as a means of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | developing an informed citizenry and as a training ground for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | future state officials; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, in accordance with the house rules of procedure and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | policies of the House Administration Committee, hereby grant |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | permission to the YMCA Youth and Government Program to use the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | chamber of the House of Representatives on January 22-25, 2009, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | January 21-24, 2010, unless the Texas House of Representatives is |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | in session on those dates. |
