5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., has served as a |

6 | 6 | | member of the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association |

7 | 7 | | since 1986, and at the age of 78, he continues to render essential |

8 | 8 | | assistance; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Thyatira, Mississippi, on July 21, 1930, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Alvertice Bowdre was educated in Mississippi and Texas and became |
---|
11 | 11 | | one of the first graduates of Southwestern Christian College; like |
---|
12 | 12 | | his father, he was called to the ministry, and for more than half a |
---|
13 | 13 | | century he has led Church of Christ congregations in Oklahoma, |
---|
14 | 14 | | Indiana, Tennessee, and Texas; he is currently the minister of the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Highway 6 Church of Christ in Navasota; through the years, he also |
---|
16 | 16 | | worked as a property manager and juvenile probation officer, and he |
---|
17 | 17 | | has been employed as a sales associate at Sears since 2001; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This industrious and civic-minded Texan has given |
---|
19 | 19 | | generously of his time and talents to numerous community |
---|
20 | 20 | | organizations; he participated on a committee addressing urban |
---|
21 | 21 | | renewal issues in the 1970s and has served as a 4-H Club leader and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Cub Scout master; moreover, he was the first president of his alma |
---|
23 | 23 | | mater's alumni association, and Southwestern Christian College |
---|
24 | 24 | | recognized his noteworthy contributions in 2006 by naming one of |
---|
25 | 25 | | its largest annual recruitment events Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., High |
---|
26 | 26 | | School Day; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Courageous and deeply committed to public safety, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Reverend Bowdre has earned the high admiration of his fellow |
---|
29 | 29 | | firefighters, and his skill and calm demeanor are invaluable to the |
---|
30 | 30 | | response team for the Waller-Harris Emergency Service District; the |
---|
31 | 31 | | fire fighting association accorded him its Distinguished Service |
---|
32 | 32 | | Award in 2007, and the following August it named a building in his |
---|
33 | 33 | | honor; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Bowdre has touched many lives by providing |
---|
35 | 35 | | aid, comfort, and compassion in times of distress, and his |
---|
36 | 36 | | dedication to the people of his community is a source of tremendous |
---|
37 | 37 | | inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., for |
---|
40 | 40 | | his service to the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association |

41 | 41 | | and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; |
