5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Chambers County have lost an |
---|
6 | 6 | | exceptional civic leader and a treasured friend with the passing of |
---|
7 | 7 | | Guy Cade Jackson III of Anahuac on February 23, 2009, at the age of |
---|
8 | 8 | | 77; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was born in San Antonio on August 16, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1931, to a family with deep and illustrious roots in Southeast |
---|
11 | 11 | | Texas; after graduating from Anahuac High School in 1948, he earned |
---|
12 | 12 | | a B.B.A. from Texas A&M University in 1952 and a law degree from The |
---|
13 | 13 | | University of Texas in 1958; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Mr. Jackson involved |
---|
15 | 15 | | himself extensively in a wide range of professional and community |
---|
16 | 16 | | endeavors; establishing a legal practice in Anahuac, he served as |
---|
17 | 17 | | president of the Chambers County Bar Association from 1974 to 1992 |
---|
18 | 18 | | and as secretary of the association from 1992 until his passing; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was also an independent real estate |
---|
20 | 20 | | broker, having entered that field in 1955, and a charter member of |
---|
21 | 21 | | the Chambers County Board of Realtors; he became the CEO and owner |
---|
22 | 22 | | of Chambers County Abstract Company and the owner of County Cross |
---|
23 | 23 | | Check, and he played a leadership role in both the Greater Houston |
---|
24 | 24 | | and the Texas Land Title Associations; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In addition to immersing himself in the realms of |
---|
26 | 26 | | law and business, this esteemed Texan heeded a deeply felt call to |
---|
27 | 27 | | community service; the extraordinary record of his civic engagement |
---|
28 | 28 | | includes work as county judge, as a director and board secretary of |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Chambers County Appraisal District, as a director of the East |
---|
30 | 30 | | Texas Legal Services Corporation, and as chair of the Chambers |
---|
31 | 31 | | County Historical Commission; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson held the offices of trustee and board |
---|
33 | 33 | | secretary of Chambers County Public Hospital District No. 1, and he |
---|
34 | 34 | | worked intensively on health issues with the Houston-Galveston Area |
---|
35 | 35 | | Council; he also served as a member of the Trinity River Authority |
---|
36 | 36 | | Board of Directors, as a member of the Chambers-Liberty Counties |
---|
37 | 37 | | Navigation District, and as a director of the Texas Water |
---|
38 | 38 | | Conservation Association; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, A decorated army veteran, Guy Jackson retired from |
---|
40 | 40 | | the military with the rank of lieutenant colonel after 23 years on |
---|
41 | 41 | | active and reserve status; he served as president of the National |
---|
42 | 42 | | Guard Association of Texas and he held life membership in the VFW |
---|
43 | 43 | | and in American Legion Post No. 104, of which he was once commander; |
---|
44 | 44 | | and |
---|
45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson played a similarly active role in the |
---|
46 | 46 | | Masons and was recognized with the Golden Trowel Award from Anahuac |
---|
47 | 47 | | Lodge No. 995 and the 50 Year Service Award from the Grand Lodge of |
---|
48 | 48 | | Texas; in addition, he was a valued congregant of the First United |
---|
49 | 49 | | Methodist Church in Anahuac and a longtime leader in the Democratic |
---|
50 | 50 | | Party at both the county and state levels; and |
---|
51 | 51 | | WHEREAS, Guy Jackson made immeasurable contributions in both |
---|
52 | 52 | | the professional and civic arenas, and he will be forever |
---|
53 | 53 | | remembered with deep admiration and appreciation by all who were |
---|
54 | 54 | | fortunate enough to share in the richness of his life; now, |
---|
55 | 55 | | therefore, be it |
---|
56 | 56 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
57 | 57 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Guy Cade Jackson III |
---|
58 | 58 | | and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
---|
59 | 59 | | wife of 47 years, Linda Cummins Jackson; to his children, Guy |
---|
60 | 60 | | Robert, Linda Ann, and Steven Lynn; to his grandson, Aidan Patrick |
---|
61 | 61 | | Jackson; to his brother, James Robert Jackson; and to his other |
---|
62 | 62 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |

63 | 63 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
