44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The citizens of Chambers County have lost an
66 exceptional civic leader and a treasured friend with the passing of
77 Guy Cade Jackson III of Anahuac on February 23, 2009, at the age of
88 77; and
99 WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was born in San Antonio on August 16,
1010 1931, to a family with deep and illustrious roots in Southeast
1111 Texas; after graduating from Anahuac High School in 1948, he earned
1212 a B.B.A. from Texas A&M University in 1952 and a law degree from The
1313 University of Texas in 1958; and
1414 WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Mr. Jackson involved
1515 himself extensively in a wide range of professional and community
1616 endeavors; establishing a legal practice in Anahuac, he served as
1717 president of the Chambers County Bar Association from 1974 to 1992
1818 and as secretary of the association from 1992 until his passing; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was also an independent real estate
2020 broker, having entered that field in 1955, and a charter member of
2121 the Chambers County Board of Realtors; he became the CEO and owner
2222 of Chambers County Abstract Company and the owner of County Cross
2323 Check, and he played a leadership role in both the Greater Houston
2424 and the Texas Land Title Associations; and
2525 WHEREAS, In addition to immersing himself in the realms of
2626 law and business, this esteemed Texan heeded a deeply felt call to
2727 community service; the extraordinary record of his civic engagement
2828 includes work as county judge, as a director and board secretary of
2929 the Chambers County Appraisal District, as a director of the East
3030 Texas Legal Services Corporation, and as chair of the Chambers
3131 County Historical Commission; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson held the offices of trustee and board
3333 secretary of Chambers County Public Hospital District No. 1, and he
3434 worked intensively on health issues with the Houston-Galveston Area
3535 Council; he also served as a member of the Trinity River Authority
3636 Board of Directors, as a member of the Chambers-Liberty Counties
3737 Navigation District, and as a director of the Texas Water
3838 Conservation Association; and
3939 WHEREAS, A decorated army veteran, Guy Jackson retired from
4040 the military with the rank of lieutenant colonel after 23 years on
4141 active and reserve status; he served as president of the National
4242 Guard Association of Texas and he held life membership in the VFW
4343 and in American Legion Post No. 104, of which he was once commander;
4444 and
4545 WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson played a similarly active role in the
4646 Masons and was recognized with the Golden Trowel Award from Anahuac
4747 Lodge No. 995 and the 50 Year Service Award from the Grand Lodge of
4848 Texas; in addition, he was a valued congregant of the First United
4949 Methodist Church in Anahuac and a longtime leader in the Democratic
5050 Party at both the county and state levels; and
5151 WHEREAS, Guy Jackson made immeasurable contributions in both
5252 the professional and civic arenas, and he will be forever
5353 remembered with deep admiration and appreciation by all who were
5454 fortunate enough to share in the richness of his life; now,
5555 therefore, be it
5656 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
5757 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Guy Cade Jackson III
5858 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
5959 wife of 47 years, Linda Cummins Jackson; to his children, Guy
6060 Robert, Linda Ann, and Steven Lynn; to his grandson, Aidan Patrick
6161 Jackson; to his brother, James Robert Jackson; and to his other
6262 relatives and friends; and, be it further
6363 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
6464 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
6565 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Guy Cade
6666 Jackson III.
