5	5	WHEREAS, The Frontier Times Museum in Bandera is honoring
6	6	nine extraordinary Texans by inducting them into its new Texas
7	7	Heroes Hall of Honor on the National Day of the American Cowboy,
8	8	July 25, 2009; and
9	9	WHEREAS, The museum was founded in 1933 to house the Western
10	10	memorabilia collected by J. Marvin Hunter, the publisher of
11	11	Frontier Times magazine and author of The Authentic History of Sam
12	12	Bass and His Gang; and
13	13	WHEREAS, The museum's first annual Hall of Honor celebration
14	14	recognizes the pioneering spirit, strength of character, and
15	15	contributions to Texas culture of three posthumous inductees and
16	16	six living legends; and
17	17	WHEREAS, One of the inaugural Hall of Honor posthumous
18	18	inductees is Mr. Hunter, for his preservation of firsthand accounts
19	19	of early settlers and for fostering interest in frontier history;
20	20	and
21	21	WHEREAS, The second posthumous inductee is the noted Texas
22	22	historian and author J. Frank Dobie, who collected stories and
23	23	legends of the Southwest for his many books about Western life and
24	24	culture; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Also inducted posthumously is Maudeen Marks, an
26	26	admired Texas rancher who helped start the Houston Fat Stock Show
27	27	and Rodeo, the Salt Grass Trail Ride, and the Texas Longhorn
28	28	Breeders Association of America; and
29	29	WHEREAS, The inductees in the Living Legend category include
30	30	the 1957 World Champion calf roper Ray Wharton, who has encouraged
31	31	and mentored generations of rodeo riders; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Cleo Hearn, a member of the Professional Rodeo
33	33	Cowboys Association since 1959, is the founder of the Cowboys of
34	34	Color Rodeo, highlighting the contributions all cultures and races
35	35	have made to the history of the West; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Kevin Fitzpatrick, the 2008 World Champion trick
37	37	roper, serves as an ambassador for the cowboy way of life,
38	38	delighting and charming audiences through his skill with a rope;
39	39	and
40	40	WHEREAS, Joe Bowman has demonstrated the art of the "fast
41	41	draw" around the world, instructing members of the FBI, the Texas
42	42	Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies in the handling of
43	43	firearms and sharing his skills with many movie stars; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Terry Boothe is a preservationist of Texas culture,
45	45	promoting Texas holidays and helping to found the Texas Cultural
46	46	Heritage Preservation Association; and
47	47	WHEREAS, One of the founders of the San Antonio Charro
48	48	Association, Dr. Raul Gaona, Sr., works to reinforce the strong
49	49	ties between Texas and Mexico, promoting classical Mexican culture
50	50	in the Lone Star State; and
51	51	WHEREAS, The many achievements of the 2009 Hall of Honor
52	52	inductees contribute greatly to the richness and diversity of Texas
53	53	culture and heritage, and they may take great pride in this special
54	54	recognition from the Frontier Times Museum; now, therefore, be it
55	55	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
56	56	Legislature hereby congratulate the 2009 inductees of the Frontier
57	57	Times Museum Texas Heroes Hall of Honor and honor them for their
58	58	enduring contributions to the Lone Star State; and, be it further
59	59	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
60	60	prepared for the living legend honorees as an expression of high
61	61	regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
