 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the
 establishment of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation;
 and
 WHEREAS, The agency was created in 1909 as the Bureau of Labor
 Statistics to collect information on Texas employees and to address
 industrial issues affecting employers, employees, and the general
 public; by 1956 the Bureau of Labor Statistics had six divisions,
 and in 1989 the agency began operating under its current name and
 many of its labor functions were transferred to the Texas
 Employment Commission; and
 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Executive Director William
 H. Kuntz, Jr., the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is
 today the state's umbrella occupational regulatory agency,
 governed by a seven-member commission that is appointed by the
 governor; guided by its core values of integrity, accountability,
 customer service, open and free communication, innovation,
 teamwork, and respect, TDLR currently oversees 26 occupations and
 industries, with more than 500,000 licensees, and its mission is to
 foster a fair and efficient regulatory environment and ensure
 public safety; and
 WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Department of
 Licensing and Regulation has demonstrated its commitment to
 becoming the model state agency, earning the public trust by
 setting the standard for customer service, innovation,
 cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and its contributions to our
 state government indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas
 Department of Licensing and Regulation and extend to its current
 and former employees and commissioners and all those associated
 with the agency sincere appreciation for their service to the Lone
 Star State; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for TDLR as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
 of Representatives.
