5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the |
---|
6 | 6 | | establishment of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; |
---|
7 | 7 | | and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The agency was created in 1909 as the Bureau of Labor |
---|
9 | 9 | | Statistics to collect information on Texas employees and to address |
---|
10 | 10 | | industrial issues affecting employers, employees, and the general |
---|
11 | 11 | | public; by 1956 the Bureau of Labor Statistics had six divisions, |
---|
12 | 12 | | and in 1989 the agency began operating under its current name and |
---|
13 | 13 | | many of its labor functions were transferred to the Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | Employment Commission; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Executive Director William |
---|
16 | 16 | | H. Kuntz, Jr., the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is |
---|
17 | 17 | | today the state's umbrella occupational regulatory agency, |
---|
18 | 18 | | governed by a seven-member commission that is appointed by the |
---|
19 | 19 | | governor; guided by its core values of integrity, accountability, |
---|
20 | 20 | | customer service, open and free communication, innovation, |
---|
21 | 21 | | teamwork, and respect, TDLR currently oversees 26 occupations and |
---|
22 | 22 | | industries, with more than 500,000 licensees, and its mission is to |
---|
23 | 23 | | foster a fair and efficient regulatory environment and ensure |
---|
24 | 24 | | public safety; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Department of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Licensing and Regulation has demonstrated its commitment to |
---|
27 | 27 | | becoming the model state agency, earning the public trust by |
---|
28 | 28 | | setting the standard for customer service, innovation, |
---|
29 | 29 | | cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and its contributions to our |
---|
30 | 30 | | state government indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore, |
---|
31 | 31 | | be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Department of Licensing and Regulation and extend to its current |
---|
35 | 35 | | and former employees and commissioners and all those associated |
---|
36 | 36 | | with the agency sincere appreciation for their service to the Lone |
---|
37 | 37 | | Star State; and, be it further |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

39 | 39 | | prepared for TDLR as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
