44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the
66 establishment of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, The agency was created in 1909 as the Bureau of Labor
99 Statistics to collect information on Texas employees and to address
1010 industrial issues affecting employers, employees, and the general
1111 public; by 1956 the Bureau of Labor Statistics had six divisions,
1212 and in 1989 the agency began operating under its current name and
1313 many of its labor functions were transferred to the Texas
1414 Employment Commission; and
1515 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Executive Director William
1616 H. Kuntz, Jr., the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is
1717 today the state's umbrella occupational regulatory agency,
1818 governed by a seven-member commission that is appointed by the
1919 governor; guided by its core values of integrity, accountability,
2020 customer service, open and free communication, innovation,
2121 teamwork, and respect, TDLR currently oversees 26 occupations and
2222 industries, with more than 500,000 licensees, and its mission is to
2323 foster a fair and efficient regulatory environment and ensure
2424 public safety; and
2525 WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Department of
2626 Licensing and Regulation has demonstrated its commitment to
2727 becoming the model state agency, earning the public trust by
2828 setting the standard for customer service, innovation,
2929 cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and its contributions to our
3030 state government indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore,
3131 be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3333 Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas
3434 Department of Licensing and Regulation and extend to its current
3535 and former employees and commissioners and all those associated
3636 with the agency sincere appreciation for their service to the Lone
3737 Star State; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for TDLR as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
4040 of Representatives.
