5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Stallman has performed exemplary service in |
---|
6 | 6 | | behalf of farmers across the state of Texas and throughout the |
---|
7 | 7 | | nation as president of the American Farm Bureau Federation; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, First elected to his leadership post in 2000, Mr. |
---|
9 | 9 | | Stallman is the group's 11th president and the first from the Lone |
---|
10 | 10 | | Star State; during his time in office, he has done an outstanding |
---|
11 | 11 | | job of carrying forth the AFBF mission of promoting the national |
---|
12 | 12 | | well-being of farm and ranch families, and his success stems from |
---|
13 | 13 | | his many years of personal involvement in agriculture; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After graduating with honors from The University of |
---|
15 | 15 | | Texas in 1974, Mr. Stallman joined his family's farming operation |
---|
16 | 16 | | in 1975; today, he continues to be a leading rice and cattle |
---|
17 | 17 | | producer in Columbus; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan's long service to the |
---|
19 | 19 | | agricultural community began with his election to the board of |
---|
20 | 20 | | directors of the Colorado County Farm Bureau in 1977; in 1993, he |
---|
21 | 21 | | became president of the Texas Farm Bureau, and he joined the AFBF |
---|
22 | 22 | | board the following year, serving on various committees and as |
---|
23 | 23 | | chair of the 1998 Farm Economy Committee; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his work with state and national Farm |
---|
25 | 25 | | Bureau organizations, Mr. Stallman has been a member of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee for Trade and the Farm |
---|
27 | 27 | | Foundation board of trustees since 2001; moreover, he serves on the |
---|
28 | 28 | | advisory board of the World Agricultural Forum and on the Texas A&M |
---|
29 | 29 | | College of Agriculture Development Council; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Stallman's expertise in farming, trade, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | economic issues has led to his appointment to a variety of important |
---|
32 | 32 | | government committees at the state and federal level; in 1996, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Governor George W. Bush selected him to serve on the Citizen's |
---|
34 | 34 | | Committee on Property Tax Relief, and in 2007, President Bush named |
---|
35 | 35 | | him to the White House Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and |
---|
36 | 36 | | Negotiations; in addition, Mr. Stallman has been appointed to the |
---|
37 | 37 | | U.S. State Department Advisory Committee on International Economic |
---|
38 | 38 | | Policy and the Commission on 21st Century Production Agriculture; |
---|
39 | 39 | | highly respected by his colleagues, he was recognized with the |
---|
40 | 40 | | Friend of Texas A&M Agriculture Award in 1999; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, In his nine years of service as AFBF president and in |
---|
42 | 42 | | his myriad other roles, Bob Stallman has been a resourceful and |
---|
43 | 43 | | effective champion of agriculture and an authoritative voice in |
---|
44 | 44 | | economic affairs, and his work has been of great assistance to the |
---|
45 | 45 | | Texas farm industry; now, therefore, be it |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
47 | 47 | | Legislature hereby commend Bob Stallman for his tenure as president |
---|
48 | 48 | | of the American Farm Bureau Federation and extend to him sincere |
---|
49 | 49 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
---|
50 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

51 | 51 | | prepared for Mr. Stallman as an expression of high regard by the |
