| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, America's military veterans hold a revered place in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the history of this country and in the hearts of their fellow |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | citizens, and on November 8, 2008, the people of Keller dedicated a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | memorial to all those from the Keller area who have served on active |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | duty in the nation's armed forces; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Several years in the planning, the development of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | this memorial was led by the Keller Rotary Club in conjunction with |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the City of Keller, and the project benefited from the generous |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | support of the Greater Keller Women's Club; many private citizens |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and a number of other organizations also contributed to bringing |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | this project to fruition; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This imposing monument consists of seven granite |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | pillars on which are engraved the names of all known Keller |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | veterans; completing the memorial is a large sculpture of an eagle |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | with wings outspread; titled "Protector of Freedom" and created by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Darrel Davis, the work symbolizes the mission of all service |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | personnel and was chosen to grace the monument by a vote of Keller |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | residents; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Our nation is fortunate to have sons and daughters |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | whose love of country is such that they are willing to risk their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | lives in its service, and it is a privilege to join in recognizing |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | these courageous Texans, to whom all Americans owe an immeasurable |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | debt of gratitude and remembrance; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Keller |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Veterans Memorial and pay profound tribute to the brave and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | steadfast men and women whose names are recorded here for the ages. |
