44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, America's military veterans hold a revered place in
66 the history of this country and in the hearts of their fellow
77 citizens, and on November 8, 2008, the people of Keller dedicated a
88 memorial to all those from the Keller area who have served on active
99 duty in the nation's armed forces; and
1010 WHEREAS, Several years in the planning, the development of
1111 this memorial was led by the Keller Rotary Club in conjunction with
1212 the City of Keller, and the project benefited from the generous
1313 support of the Greater Keller Women's Club; many private citizens
1414 and a number of other organizations also contributed to bringing
1515 this project to fruition; and
1616 WHEREAS, This imposing monument consists of seven granite
1717 pillars on which are engraved the names of all known Keller
1818 veterans; completing the memorial is a large sculpture of an eagle
1919 with wings outspread; titled "Protector of Freedom" and created by
2020 Darrel Davis, the work symbolizes the mission of all service
2121 personnel and was chosen to grace the monument by a vote of Keller
2222 residents; and
2323 WHEREAS, Our nation is fortunate to have sons and daughters
2424 whose love of country is such that they are willing to risk their
2525 lives in its service, and it is a privilege to join in recognizing
2626 these courageous Texans, to whom all Americans owe an immeasurable
2727 debt of gratitude and remembrance; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2929 Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the Keller
3030 Veterans Memorial and pay profound tribute to the brave and
3131 steadfast men and women whose names are recorded here for the ages.
