H.R. No. 1496 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Highly regarded in both his profession and his community, Mike Trimble received the Otis L. Fowler Award from the Denton Chamber of Commerce in March 2009; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Mr. Trimble took his first position as a journalist with the Texarkana Gazette in 1963; he went on to work at the statewide publications the Arkansas Gazette and the Arkansas Times; he was also the city editor for the Pine Bluff Commercial, and during this time he met the former Jane Ramos, whom he later married; Mr. Trimble relocated to the Lone Star State when his wife was transferred to Weatherford, and in 1995 he joined the staff of the Denton Record-Chronicle as a copy editor; and WHEREAS, For the past six years, Mr. Trimble has served as the opinion editor of the Denton newspaper, writing about local issues in his daily editorial and overseeing the other opinion pieces and letters to the editor; in 2006, this esteemed professional won the highest accolade in editorial writing from the American Society of News Editors, and as the recipient of the prestigious Otis L. Fowler Award, Mr. Trimble has been further recognized for his outstanding work; and WHEREAS, Mike Trimble has distinguished himself over the course of his 45-year career with his ability to inform, entertain, and engage his readers, and he has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of his readers and colleagues alike; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Trimble on his receipt of the Otis L. Fowler Award from the Denton Chamber of Commerce and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Trimble as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
