 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Since opening in 1991, the South Texas Blood &
 Tissue Center National Marrow Donor Program has continually set
 records for registering potential donors, and in its 17th year of
 service, it registered a record 16,635 donors; and
 WHEREAS, The program has also played an increasingly critical
 role in matching donors and recipients, resulting in some 479
 marrow and peripheral stem cell transplants, and it has further
 distinguished itself through its registry of Hispanic donors, one
 of the largest of its kind in the United States; and
 WHEREAS, In 2008, STBTC celebrated a major achievement, when
 the National Marrow Donor Program designated it an official
 Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collection Center; after stem cells are
 collected and processed at STBTC, they are hand delivered by staff
 to hospitals across the globe for transplantation in matching
 patients; and
 WHEREAS, A source of hope and renewed health for countless
 people, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center National Marrow Donor
 Program serves patients throughout the United States and beyond,
 and its significant lifesaving efforts are indeed worthy of special
 recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center
 National Marrow Donor Program on its record-setting donor registry
 and extend sincere best wishes for continued success to all those
 associated with this vital organization; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center National Marrow
 Donor Program as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
 Representatives.
