5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Since 1996, High Adventure Treks for Dads and |

6 | 6 | | Daughters has provided outdoor educational opportunities for girls |
---|
7 | 7 | | that allow them to spend special time with their fathers; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Known as HATS, the organization was created by Kipp |
---|
9 | 9 | | Murray, after he went on a backpacking trip with his son and |
---|
10 | 10 | | realized that he wanted to have that same kind of experience with |
---|
11 | 11 | | his daughter, Megan; Mr. Murray recruited other citizens and set |
---|
12 | 12 | | out to design a program for teaching girls in their early teens |
---|
13 | 13 | | advanced camping and wilderness survival skills and for fostering |
---|
14 | 14 | | meaningful relationships between fathers and daughters; through |
---|
15 | 15 | | the years, participation increased, and with a positive response |
---|
16 | 16 | | from the community, HATS grew to serve 140 residents of the Dallas |
---|
17 | 17 | | area; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, HATS operates as a nonprofit organization, |
---|
19 | 19 | | and it continues to offer young women vital opportunities for |
---|
20 | 20 | | personal growth through community-based adventure activities, |
---|
21 | 21 | | including canoeing, rock climbing, ropes courses, horseback |
---|
22 | 22 | | riding, orienteering, and camping; by challenging themselves |
---|
23 | 23 | | through these treks, the girls learn to work with their fathers to |
---|
24 | 24 | | accomplish their goals, and they develop confidence, strength of |
---|
25 | 25 | | conviction, and determination; in addition, HATS gives these youth |
---|
26 | 26 | | lessons in responsibility, teamwork, compassion, and leadership, |
---|
27 | 27 | | as well as such practical training as first aid, and it assists them |
---|
28 | 28 | | in understanding that they are capable of making wise choices as |
---|
29 | 29 | | they are also encouraged to try new things; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, High Adventure Treks for Dads and Daughters has |
---|
31 | 31 | | taught many young Texans valuable life skills through its enjoyable |
---|
32 | 32 | | outdoor programs, and its emphasis on strong and healthy |
---|
33 | 33 | | parent-teen relationships has brought lasting benefits to these |
---|
34 | 34 | | participants; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor High Adventure Treks for Dads and |
---|
37 | 37 | | Daughters and extend to all those associated with the organization |
---|
38 | 38 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
40 | 40 | | prepared for HATS as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
---|
