44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
66 recognize the TEXAS Grant program on the occasion of its 10th
77 anniversary; and
88 WHEREAS, Legislation for the TEXAS Grant program was enacted
99 in 1999 with the goal of providing thousands of Texas high school
1010 students the opportunity to attend college, thus helping them to
1111 better meet the challenges of the 21st century; and
1212 WHEREAS, The program was designed to do for Texas what such
1313 historic legislation as the GI Bill has done for the nation, that
1414 is, to create a highly educated and skilled generation of young
1515 people who might not otherwise have attended college due to
1616 financial limitations; and
1717 WHEREAS, A college education is a vital ingredient for
1818 professional and economic success in our society, and encouraging
1919 and supporting college students is among the state's top
2020 priorities; and
2121 WHEREAS, The TEXAS Grant program has already contributed to
2222 the betterment of the Lone Star State by aiding in the education and
2323 enrichment of some 205,000 students through nearly $1.2 billion in
2424 funding, and it has become an integral component of the state's
2525 Closing the Gaps higher education strategy; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby commemorate the 10th anniversary of the creation
2828 of the TEXAS Grant program and extend sincere appreciation to all
2929 those involved in helping students access TEXAS Grants.
