H.R. No. 1535 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Bishop Amos York, Sr., has provided outstanding leadership to the congregants of Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle in Houston; and WHEREAS, The son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry York, Amos York was born in Beasley in 1941, and he relocated with his family to the Bayou City in 1949; he was later educated in the Aldine Independent School District and through the External Education Department of Oral Roberts University, and he went on to work as an international sales and marketing director before he answered the call to the ministry; and WHEREAS, In 1980, Bishop York became the pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and since that time, he has helped it expand into the thriving organization known today as Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle; cherished among the church's members for his wisdom and compassion, Bishop York is known for reaching out to the children in the congregation, who affectionately refer to him as "Paw Paw," and he has published the inspirational book, Soul Winning--Every Believer's Calling; and WHEREAS, Throughout his long history of community involvement, Bishop York has coached Little League teams, and he has helped bring vital assistance to local citizens through the establishment of the Glory Economic Development Corporation, which has operated as Glory Partial Hospital and as a grant writing ministry; Bishop York is also the CEO of Amos York Ministries and of Christway Builders, and in 1996, he founded World Outreach Association, a global network of churches and ministries; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Bishop York enjoys the love and support of his wife of 37 years and colleague at Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle, Pastor Ora Marie York, and the couple take great pride in their five sons, Michael, Johnny, Terrance, Amos, and Delbert; and WHEREAS, Bishop York has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his church, and with his strong faith and good works, he has earned the lasting respect and admiration of his congregants, as well as residents of the greater community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Bishop Amos York, Sr., for his distinguished service to Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Bishop York as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
