44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Bishop Amos York, Sr., has
66 provided outstanding leadership to the congregants of Pillar of
77 Glory Christian Tabernacle in Houston; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry York, Amos York
99 was born in Beasley in 1941, and he relocated with his family to the
1010 Bayou City in 1949; he was later educated in the Aldine Independent
1111 School District and through the External Education Department of
1212 Oral Roberts University, and he went on to work as an international
1313 sales and marketing director before he answered the call to the
1414 ministry; and
1515 WHEREAS, In 1980, Bishop York became the pastor of Mount Zion
1616 Missionary Baptist Church, and since that time, he has helped it
1717 expand into the thriving organization known today as Pillar of
1818 Glory Christian Tabernacle; cherished among the church's members
1919 for his wisdom and compassion, Bishop York is known for reaching out
2020 to the children in the congregation, who affectionately refer to
2121 him as "Paw Paw," and he has published the inspirational book, Soul
2222 Winning--Every Believer's Calling; and
2323 WHEREAS, Throughout his long history of community
2424 involvement, Bishop York has coached Little League teams, and he
2525 has helped bring vital assistance to local citizens through the
2626 establishment of the Glory Economic Development Corporation, which
2727 has operated as Glory Partial Hospital and as a grant writing
2828 ministry; Bishop York is also the CEO of Amos York Ministries and of
2929 Christway Builders, and in 1996, he founded World Outreach
3030 Association, a global network of churches and ministries; and
3131 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Bishop York enjoys the love
3232 and support of his wife of 37 years and colleague at Pillar of Glory
3333 Christian Tabernacle, Pastor Ora Marie York, and the couple take
3434 great pride in their five sons, Michael, Johnny, Terrance, Amos,
3535 and Delbert; and
3636 WHEREAS, Bishop York has demonstrated an unwavering
3737 commitment to his church, and with his strong faith and good works,
3838 he has earned the lasting respect and admiration of his
3939 congregants, as well as residents of the greater community; now,
4040 therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4242 Legislature hereby honor Bishop Amos York, Sr., for his
4343 distinguished service to Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle and
4444 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
4545 happiness; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for Bishop York as an expression of high regard by the
4848 Texas House of Representatives.
