5	5	WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Bishop Amos York, Sr., has
6	6	provided outstanding leadership to the congregants of Pillar of
7	7	Glory Christian Tabernacle in Houston; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry York, Amos York
9	9	was born in Beasley in 1941, and he relocated with his family to the
10	10	Bayou City in 1949; he was later educated in the Aldine Independent
11	11	School District and through the External Education Department of
12	12	Oral Roberts University, and he went on to work as an international
13	13	sales and marketing director before he answered the call to the
14	14	ministry; and
15	15	WHEREAS, In 1980, Bishop York became the pastor of Mount Zion
16	16	Missionary Baptist Church, and since that time, he has helped it
17	17	expand into the thriving organization known today as Pillar of
18	18	Glory Christian Tabernacle; cherished among the church's members
19	19	for his wisdom and compassion, Bishop York is known for reaching out
20	20	to the children in the congregation, who affectionately refer to
21	21	him as "Paw Paw," and he has published the inspirational book, Soul
22	22	Winning--Every Believer's Calling; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Throughout his long history of community
24	24	involvement, Bishop York has coached Little League teams, and he
25	25	has helped bring vital assistance to local citizens through the
26	26	establishment of the Glory Economic Development Corporation, which
27	27	has operated as Glory Partial Hospital and as a grant writing
28	28	ministry; Bishop York is also the CEO of Amos York Ministries and of
29	29	Christway Builders, and in 1996, he founded World Outreach
30	30	Association, a global network of churches and ministries; and
31	31	WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Bishop York enjoys the love
32	32	and support of his wife of 37 years and colleague at Pillar of Glory
33	33	Christian Tabernacle, Pastor Ora Marie York, and the couple take
34	34	great pride in their five sons, Michael, Johnny, Terrance, Amos,
35	35	and Delbert; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Bishop York has demonstrated an unwavering
37	37	commitment to his church, and with his strong faith and good works,
38	38	he has earned the lasting respect and admiration of his
39	39	congregants, as well as residents of the greater community; now,
40	40	therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
42	42	Legislature hereby honor Bishop Amos York, Sr., for his
43	43	distinguished service to Pillar of Glory Christian Tabernacle and
44	44	extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
45	45	happiness; and, be it further
46	46	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
47	47	prepared for Bishop York as an expression of high regard by the
48	48	Texas House of Representatives.
