H.R. No. 1536 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Hondo Municipal Airport has been named the 2009 General Aviation Airport of the Year by the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division; and WHEREAS, This honor is a fitting tribute to the significant changes that have taken place at the airport in recent years, which include a new terminal building and a new fuel facility that were funded by grants from TxDOT; in addition, the City of Hondo and its Economic Development Corporation have helped establish a 1,400-acre industrial park at the airport that includes a direct connection to the Union Pacific Railroad line; this infrastructure gives the airport the ability to serve as an air-rail transfer hub, which promises to spur further growth in the years ahead; and WHEREAS, Already, Hondo Municipal has become a center for business development; it is home to the Corrigan Air Center, which specializes in paint, interior, and avionics work for aircraft, and in the fall of 2008, Air Evac Lifeteam based its regional emergency medical services operations in Hondo; moreover, a flight training academy and a wing of the Commemorative Air Force are slated to become part of the airport facility in the years ahead; and WHEREAS, The achievements at Hondo Municipal have been realized through the valuable contributions of numerous individuals, with essential guidance coming from Hondo city manager Robert T. Herrera and airport manager Tim Fousse; and WHEREAS, Through a combination of determined work and innovative thinking, Hondo Municipal Airport has become a vital city asset that is helping to drive economic growth in the area, and the receipt of this prestigious award provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the people who are responsible; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Hondo Municipal Airport on being named the 2009 General Aviation Airport of the Year by the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division and commend all those involved with the facility's operations and redevelopment for a job well done; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the airport as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
