| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Veteran educator Vernagene Mott of Pflugerville |

| 6 | 6 | | Independent School District has been elected to a one-year term on |

| 7 | 7 | | the board of directors of the Texas Association of School Boards; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1949, TASB is a statewide nonprofit |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | organization dedicated to representing and supporting more than a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | thousand Texas school districts and community colleges; the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | association is governed by a delegate assembly and a 44-member |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | board of directors made up of representatives from local school |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | boards across the state; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Vernagene Mott is currently the secretary of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Pflugerville ISD board of trustees, where she has served for four |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | years; as a new member of the TASB board, she will represent TASB |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Region 13C; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Herself a graduate of Pflugerville High School, Ms. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Mott holds a bachelor's degree with honors in math and chemistry |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | from The University of Texas at Austin; she was a teacher at |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Pflugerville High School for many years, acting as chair of the math |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and science departments and as a sponsor of the National Honor |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Society; from 1964 until her retirement from teaching in 2003, she |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | was a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding community leader is also a charter |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | member of the Pflugerville Educators' Association and the Heritage |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | House Museum, as well as a founder of Heritage House Partners; she |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | has been active in water issues, working with the Lower Colorado |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | River Authority Watershed Watch Education Committee and the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Manville Water Supply Company board of directors; a devoted member |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she chaired its 125th Anniversary |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Committee; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, For her many contributions to her community, Ms. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Mott has been recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce; and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, The quality of public education in Texas depends |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | greatly on the caring efforts of concerned members of the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | community, and with her election to the TASB board, Vernagene Mott |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | continues her long history of tireless advocacy on behalf of |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | students and schools; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby commend Vernagene Mott on her election to the |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Texas Association of School Boards board of directors and extend to |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
