5	5	WHEREAS, Proud residents of Williamson County are gathering
6	6	in Austin on April 28, 2009, to celebrate Williamson County Day at
7	7	the State Capitol; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Among the fastest-growing counties in the nation,
9	9	Williamson County is also home to five of the fastest-growing
10	10	cities, including Hutto, the population of which has increased by
11	11	1,270 percent since 2000; and
12	12	WHEREAS, The county's rapidly expanding health care
13	13	resources include five new or expanded hospitals as well as the new
14	14	Texas A&M Health Science Center; the Texas Life-Sciences
15	15	Collaboration Center in Georgetown is a vital resource for the
16	16	recruitment of emerging biotech, nanotech, and medical device
17	17	companies and is a boon for science classes in the area's public
18	18	schools and universities; and
19	19	WHEREAS, A center for higher education, Williamson County
20	20	boasts the campuses of historic Southwestern University, Texas
21	21	State University-Round Rock Higher Education Center, Austin
22	22	Community College, and the East Williamson County Higher Education
23	23	Center, all of which are growing to meet new demand; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Taylor is home to the Electric Reliability Council
25	25	of Texas, which manages the majority of the Lone Star State's
26	26	electrical grid; the city is also the home of several leading
27	27	companies focusing on the creation of clean, renewable energy; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Leander is preparing for the future with its planned
29	29	Transit Oriented Development and its active participation in the
30	30	completion of the new Capital Metro commuter rail system;
31	31	throughout the county, the transportation infrastructure is being
32	32	increased to accommodate growth and ensure the safety of residents
33	33	and visitors; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Georgetown have been
35	35	listed among the best places to live, ride out the recession, launch
36	36	a new business, and retire in America, and the county as a whole is
37	37	among the safest places to live in America, with one of the lowest
38	38	crime rates in the nation; and
39	39	WHEREAS, Williamson County honors its fallen heroes in
40	40	Afghanistan and Iraq with the Nathan Chapman Memorial and with
41	41	generous scholarships and other assistance for the families of
42	42	these brave servicemen and servicewomen; additionally, the county
43	43	and its communities have adopted the Aviation Battalion of the U.S.
44	44	Army 4th Infantry Division and actively support its soldiers and
45	45	their families; and
46	46	WHEREAS, Widely known for the hospitality, concern for
47	47	others, goodwill, and civic engagement of its citizens, Williamson
48	48	County is celebrated for its exceptional quality of life and the
49	49	"can do" spirit of its people, pointing the way to a bright and
50	50	exciting future; now, therefore, be it
51	51	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
52	52	Legislature hereby recognize April 28, 2009, as Williamson County
53	53	Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation
54	54	sincere best wishes for a memorable and meaningful day in Austin.
