H.R. No. 1567 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Paul G. Cunningham is retiring from the Board of General Superintendents for the Church of the Nazarene in June 2009, and he is being honored at the South Texas District Leadership Summit and Assembly in Houston; and WHEREAS, During his notable career, Dr. Cunningham served as pastor of the College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas, for 30 years and spent more than two decades as chaplain of the Olathe Police Department; and WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman's compassion and diligence earned him the Citizen of the Year Award from the local Chamber of Commerce, and the J. T. Barton Award, the highest honor bestowed by the City of Olathe; greatly respected by his fellow citizens, he was ranked seventh in a list of the Top 150 People in Olathe; and WHEREAS, In 1993, Dr. Cunningham was elected to the Church of the Nazarene's highest office, General Superintendent; since that time, he has provided inspiring leadership to pastors and congregations across the state and beyond and traveled around the world, representing the church and encouraging men and women in their faith; he has also supported the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in order to provide aid to the most impoverished nations; and WHEREAS, Paul Cunningham has worked diligently in behalf of his faith, providing comfort and spiritual guidance, while proving himself to be a wise and inspiring teacher, counselor, and friend to many; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Dr. Paul G. Cunningham on his retirement as a general superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Cunningham as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
