| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Paul G. Cunningham is retiring from the Board of |

| 6 | 6 | | General Superintendents for the Church of the Nazarene in June |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 2009, and he is being honored at the South Texas District Leadership |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Summit and Assembly in Houston; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, During his notable career, Dr. Cunningham served as |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | pastor of the College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas, for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 30 years and spent more than two decades as chaplain of the Olathe |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Police Department; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman's compassion and diligence |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | earned him the Citizen of the Year Award from the local Chamber of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Commerce, and the J. T. Barton Award, the highest honor bestowed by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the City of Olathe; greatly respected by his fellow citizens, he was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ranked seventh in a list of the Top 150 People in Olathe; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1993, Dr. Cunningham was elected to the Church |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of the Nazarene's highest office, General Superintendent; since |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | that time, he has provided inspiring leadership to pastors and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | congregations across the state and beyond and traveled around the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | world, representing the church and encouraging men and women in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | their faith; he has also supported the Nazarene Compassionate |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Ministries in order to provide aid to the most impoverished |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | nations; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Paul Cunningham has worked diligently in behalf of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his faith, providing comfort and spiritual guidance, while proving |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | himself to be a wise and inspiring teacher, counselor, and friend to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | many; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. Paul G. Cunningham on his retirement |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | as a general superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
