5	5	WHEREAS, A full and productive life came to an end with the
6	6	passing of Roberta Pittman Rice Brown of Kerrville on September 3,
7	7	2007, at the age of 81; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The daughter of Harold Frederick Rice and Jo
9	9	Pittman, the former Roberta Rice was born in Denver, Colorado, and
10	10	raised in Grand Forks, North Dakota; she attended the University of
11	11	Wisconsin and earned her bachelor's degree in music from The
12	12	University of Texas at Austin; in 1948, she married John William
13	13	Brown, and the couple were blessed with two cherished sons, Jay and
14	14	Warren; the family lived in Houston before moving to Kerrville in
15	15	1956; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown taught music at Starkey Elementary School
17	17	for nearly three decades; kind and patient with her students, she
18	18	encouraged them in their efforts to master instruments and
19	19	introduced them to music from around the world, even coaching
20	20	children to sing in Japanese for a memorable pageant; she was a
21	21	member of the Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Music
22	22	Educators Association, American Association of University Women,
23	23	and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; and
24	24	WHEREAS, A talented harpist, Mrs. Brown played for many years
25	25	at the Christmas candlelight service at First Presbyterian Church,
26	26	where she was an active member and an officer of the Presbyterian
27	27	Women group; she was also seen on stage in plays produced by the
28	28	Hill Country Arts Foundation, for which she was an enthusiastic
29	29	volunteer; in addition, she was active in the Republican Women of
30	30	Kerr County and worked tirelessly on numerous political campaigns;
31	31	and
32	32	WHEREAS, Roberta Brown is remembered for her devotion to her
33	33	family, her dedication as an educator and musician, and her support
34	34	of the arts, and she has left behind a legacy of intelligence,
35	35	optimism, and generosity that will be forever treasured by those
36	36	who held her dear; now, therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
38	38	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roberta Pittman Rice
39	39	Brown and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
40	40	her sons, Jay and Warren Brown; to her grandchildren, Cameron,
41	41	Collin, Christian, and Jennifer Brown; and to her other family
42	42	members and friends; and, be it further
43	43	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
44	44	prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
45	45	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roberta
46	46	Brown.
