44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The untimely death of attorney William Dean Peisen
66 on April 9, 2009, at the age of 51, has deeply saddened the Rio
77 Grande Valley community and brought a great loss to his family and
88 friends; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Jo Anne and George Peisen, Bill Peisen was
1010 born on October 10, 1957, in Eldora, Iowa; he graduated from Iowa
1111 State University with a bachelor's degree in economics and went on
1212 to law school there, serving on the board of editors of the Iowa Law
1313 Review and graduating with distinction; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Peisen was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1983 and
1515 to the bar of the United States District Court for the Southern
1616 District of Texas the following year; board certified in civil
1717 trial law, he focused his successful solo practice on civil trial
1818 and appellate law with an emphasis on commercial litigation, and he
1919 was greatly respected for his knowledge, his professionalism, and
2020 his confident and courteous manner in the courtroom; and
2121 WHEREAS, A dedicated civic leader, he served on the board of
2222 the McAllen Independent School District from 1996 to 2002,
2323 including one year as president; moreover, he gave generously of
2424 his time and talent for many years to the McAllen Youth Soccer
2525 League and to various school activities; he served on the board of
2626 the McAllen Airport and provided his legal counsel to St. John's
2727 Episcopal School on a pro bono basis; and
2828 WHEREAS, Known as a true gentleman, Bill Peisen won many
2929 friends with his warmth, kindness, and delightful sense of humor,
3030 and memories of him will be forever cherished by those who were
3131 privileged to share in his love and affection; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Bill Peisen and extend
3434 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Val
3535 Peisen; to his children, Marty, Grant, Lisa Marie, Alex, and
3636 Jessica; to his father, George Peisen; to his brother, John Peisen,
3737 and his wife, Mary; to his father-in-law, Joe LaMantia, Jr., and his
3838 wife, Derrelene; to his brothers-in-law, Joe LaMantia III and his
3939 wife, Marilyn, Greg LaMantia and his wife, Dru, Steve LaMantia and
4040 his wife, Linda, and Tony LaMantia and his wife, Jennifer; and to
4141 his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill
4545 Peisen.
