5	5	WHEREAS, A full and purposeful life came to an end with the
6	6	passing of Billy Jack Stiles of Thorndale in January 2009; and
7	7	WHEREAS, Jack Stiles graduated from Thorndale High School and
8	8	married his beloved sweetheart Lillian, with whom he enjoyed a
9	9	fulfilling marriage of more than 55 years; the couple were blessed
10	10	with three children, Mark, Jacqueline, and Marilyn, as well as nine
11	11	grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Mr. Stiles, a patriotic American, willingly
13	13	answered his nation's call to duty as a member of the U.S. Air Force
14	14	during the Korean War; his love of country never diminished after
15	15	his honorable military service, as he was an active member of the
16	16	Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the military, Mr.
18	18	Stiles worked in administrative services with the Texas State Board
19	19	of Insurance until his retirement; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Mr. Stiles was a true Godly Southern gentleman of
21	21	the finest caliber, and he expressed his devotion to His Lord Jesus
22	22	Christ as a dedicated member of First Baptist Church; and
23	23	WHEREAS, After the tragic and untimely death of his beloved
24	24	Lillian from a senseless and unprovoked attack by loose domestic
25	25	dogs, Mr. Stiles and other family members worked tirelessly with
26	26	State Representative Dan Gattis to champion the passage of
27	27	"Lillian's Law," also known as House Bill 1355 of the 80th Texas
28	28	Legislature; the unwavering dedication of Mr. Stiles to seeing this
29	29	legislation become law has helped enhance the public safety of
30	30	residents throughout Texas by reducing the number of such tragic
31	31	and preventable domestic dog attacks; throughout the legislative
32	32	session, Mr. Stiles showed truly remarkable poise, dignity, and
33	33	grace, as was evidenced by his powerful testimony before house and
34	34	senate committees; and
35	35	WHEREAS, Although the passing of Jack Stiles has brought
36	36	great sorrow to all who knew him, he leaves behind a wealth of
37	37	memories that will long be treasured by those who were privileged to
38	38	share in his company; now, therefore, be it
39	39	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
40	40	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Jack Stiles and
41	41	extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
42	42	children, Mark Stiles and his wife, Cheryl, Jacqueline Williams,
43	43	and Marilyn Shoemaker and her husband, Bill; to his grandchildren,
44	44	Nicole King and her husband, Vernon, Alexander Williams and his
45	45	wife, Danette, Jess "Trey" Williams III, Justin and Jonna Stiles,
46	46	Brook and David Hampton, Amanda Shoemaker, and Shawn Shoemaker and
47	47	his wife, Kyndal; to his great-grandchildren, Chase Williams,
48	48	Andrew and Amanda Lopez, Harley King, Devon Perkins, Paige Stiles,
49	49	and Savannah and Landan Williams; to his sister, Shirley Ling; and
50	50	to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
51	51	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
52	52	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
53	53	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Billy Jack
