R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bonnie Simpson is retiring as an employee of the
Texas House of Representatives on June 30, 2009, concluding a
distinguished career that has spanned 27 years; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, Mrs. Simpson reported for her first day of
work at the State Capitol; she began her tenure in House Property
and later took up new responsibilities as part of House
Reproduction; and
WHEREAS, Possessing a keen sense of humor, she has often
lightened her colleagues' spirits with her joking comments, and on
one memorable occasion, she told Speaker Bill Clayton that he
needed to "leave a quarter" when he asked to use the phone in the
Property office; another legendary Texas politician to cross Mrs.
Simpson's path was Governor George W. Bush, who once offered to help
her in her task of matching chairs to desks in the house chamber;
and
WHEREAS, With her working days coming to an end, this native
Texan is looking forward to devoting herself more fully to her
hobbies, which include sewing, cross stitching, bicycle riding,
target shooting, bowling, attending gun shows and cattle auctions,
and, especially, shopping; in addition, she plans to spend relaxed
mornings sipping coffee on the porch of her home while relishing the
fact that she no longer has to make a 100-mile round-trip commute to
and from downtown Austin each day; and
WHEREAS, Retirement will also allow Mrs. Simpson to spend
additional time with her family, which includes her husband, Terry
Simpson, her son, Bradly, and her grandchildren, Ash, Ty, and
Jaidyn; other members of the Simpson homestead include dogs, Hank
and Frank, miniature donkeys, Annie, Belle, Theresa, and Cheyenne,
and a few white-face Hereford cattle; and
WHEREAS, For more than a quarter-century, Bonnie Simpson has
provided important service to the members of this chamber, and she
may take justifiable pride in her many achievements as she begins
the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Bonnie Simpson on the event of her
retirement and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Simpson as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
