44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas is
66 celebrating the 35th anniversary of its founding in 2009; and
77 WHEREAS, With 252 initial members, this notable group was
88 organized in July 1974 to promote the interests of communities
99 through hometown leadership and investment; and
1010 WHEREAS, IBAT has grown in numbers and stature over the years
1111 while continuing to champion its mission at local, state, and
1212 national levels, and it has taken strong civic and legislative
1313 stands in its ongoing efforts to strengthen the Texas economy and
1414 foster local growth; and
1515 WHEREAS, Community banks have made enhancing area citizens'
1616 quality of life their top priority by investing in civic endeavors
1717 ranging from Little League to Main Street programs, and in so doing
1818 these institutions have provided both financial assistance and
1919 hands-on leadership from volunteers at all levels of personnel; and
2020 WHEREAS, IBAT has continually developed educational tools
2121 emphasizing financial literacy, offering programs for Texans of all
2222 ages through its IBAT Education Foundation, working hand-in-hand
2323 with schools, senior centers, and local, state, and national
2424 organizations to make Texans financially responsible; and
2525 WHEREAS, The association continues to develop programs and
2626 services for the betterment of community banks, such as its
2727 wholly-owned IBAT Services, IBAT Leadership Division, and IBAT
2828 Financial Services; the Texas Independent Bank was created as an
2929 alternative source of correspondent banking services for Texas
3030 community banks and has grown to be the largest such bank in the
3131 nation; and
3232 WHEREAS, Taking a leadership role in the promotion of the
3333 Texas Main Street Program, IBAT's commendable efforts include the
3434 annual First Lady's Tour honoring designated communities working
3535 for the betterment of cities and towns of the Lone Star State; and
3636 WHEREAS, The governor of Texas honored IBAT for its work in
3737 the Main Street Program in 2006, presenting the prestigious
3838 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation to the IBAT board of
3939 directors in ceremonies at the Governor's Mansion; and
4040 WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas
4141 represents some 2,000 Texas-based banks and full-service branches
4242 located in 700 border-to-border communities, led by thousands of
4343 local and community-loving employees, all working for the
4444 betterment of independent banks and the communities that make them
4545 special; now, therefore, be it
4646 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4747 Legislature hereby honor the Independent Bankers Association of
4848 Texas on the occasion of its 35th anniversary and extend to its
4949 members sincere best wishes for continued success and prosperity;
5050 and, be it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for IBAT as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
5353 of Representatives.
