5	5	WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas is
6	6	celebrating the 35th anniversary of its founding in 2009; and
7	7	WHEREAS, With 252 initial members, this notable group was
8	8	organized in July 1974 to promote the interests of communities
9	9	through hometown leadership and investment; and
10	10	WHEREAS, IBAT has grown in numbers and stature over the years
11	11	while continuing to champion its mission at local, state, and
12	12	national levels, and it has taken strong civic and legislative
13	13	stands in its ongoing efforts to strengthen the Texas economy and
14	14	foster local growth; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Community banks have made enhancing area citizens'
16	16	quality of life their top priority by investing in civic endeavors
17	17	ranging from Little League to Main Street programs, and in so doing
18	18	these institutions have provided both financial assistance and
19	19	hands-on leadership from volunteers at all levels of personnel; and
20	20	WHEREAS, IBAT has continually developed educational tools
21	21	emphasizing financial literacy, offering programs for Texans of all
22	22	ages through its IBAT Education Foundation, working hand-in-hand
23	23	with schools, senior centers, and local, state, and national
24	24	organizations to make Texans financially responsible; and
25	25	WHEREAS, The association continues to develop programs and
26	26	services for the betterment of community banks, such as its
27	27	wholly-owned IBAT Services, IBAT Leadership Division, and IBAT
28	28	Financial Services; the Texas Independent Bank was created as an
29	29	alternative source of correspondent banking services for Texas
30	30	community banks and has grown to be the largest such bank in the
31	31	nation; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Taking a leadership role in the promotion of the
33	33	Texas Main Street Program, IBAT's commendable efforts include the
34	34	annual First Lady's Tour honoring designated communities working
35	35	for the betterment of cities and towns of the Lone Star State; and
36	36	WHEREAS, The governor of Texas honored IBAT for its work in
37	37	the Main Street Program in 2006, presenting the prestigious
38	38	Governor's Award for Historic Preservation to the IBAT board of
39	39	directors in ceremonies at the Governor's Mansion; and
40	40	WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas
41	41	represents some 2,000 Texas-based banks and full-service branches
42	42	located in 700 border-to-border communities, led by thousands of
43	43	local and community-loving employees, all working for the
44	44	betterment of independent banks and the communities that make them
45	45	special; now, therefore, be it
46	46	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
47	47	Legislature hereby honor the Independent Bankers Association of
48	48	Texas on the occasion of its 35th anniversary and extend to its
49	49	members sincere best wishes for continued success and prosperity;
50	50	and, be it further
51	51	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
52	52	prepared for IBAT as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
53	53	of Representatives.
