44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Captain Johnny Mynar retired from the McLennan
66 County Sheriff's Office after 34 years of service on November 30,
77 2008, drawing to a close an exemplary career in law enforcement; and
88 WHEREAS, Captain Mynar's notable tenure encompassed several
99 different assignments with the sheriff's office; beginning as a
1010 jailer, he was soon promoted to the position of bailiff for the 54th
1111 District Court and worked for Judges Carl C. Anderson and Walter
1212 Smith; in 1982, he became the day shift supervisor, and while in
1313 that position, he earned the rank of sergeant when the sheriff's
1414 office instituted a rank structure for its uniformed personnel; and
1515 WHEREAS, Promoted to lieutenant in 1989, he took on the
1616 responsibilities of being assistant jail administrator, and his
1717 outstanding performance in that capacity led to his appointment as
1818 jail administrator and his promotion to the rank of captain in 1998;
1919 these administrative positions enabled Captain Mynar to play an
2020 instrumental role in developing the McLennan County Jail Division
2121 and helping it to effectively adapt to the challenges presented by a
2222 growing county and an increasing inmate population; and
2323 WHEREAS, This respected officer was a member of the American
2424 Jail Association, the Texas Jail Association, the Commission on
2525 Jail Standards, and the Texas Association of Counties, and his
2626 affiliation with those organizations allowed him to learn from and
2727 share valuable information with colleagues throughout Texas; and
2828 WHEREAS, An assured leader in a range of endeavors, Captain
2929 Mynar was a member of the school board for the West Independent
3030 School District for six years and is a former president and longtime
3131 member of the West Kiwanis; he currently serves as president of the
3232 Cottonwood Water Board and holds a seat on the board of the West
3333 Fair and Rodeo; he and his wife, Cheryl, reside in West, and Mr.
3434 Mynar is looking forward to spending more time on their farm during
3535 his retirement years; and
3636 WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Johnny Mynar
3737 distinguished himself in his efforts to serve and protect the
3838 citizens of McLennan County, and he may indeed reflect with pride on
3939 his outstanding record of achievement during his years in uniform;
4040 now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4242 Legislature hereby congratulate Johnny Mynar on his retirement from
4343 the McLennan County Sheriff's Office and extend to him sincere best
4444 wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Captain Mynar as an expression of high regard by the
4747 Texas House of Representatives.
