H.R. No. 169
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bill Roebken has been named the Little Elm Citizen
of the Year for 2008, and this prestigious honor provides fitting
recognition of his ongoing philanthropy and community involvement;
and
WHEREAS, Together with his wife, Jolly, Mr. Roebken has
generously contributed to numerous endeavors and activities since
moving to Little Elm from Green Bay, Wisconsin, in the early 1980s;
one of the Roebkens' best known projects is the annual Jet Ski and
Boat Poker Run, which they cosponsor with another local couple; in
2008, the benefit raised nearly $15,000 to help the Little Elm Area
Food Bank; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Roebken was instrumental in the founding of the
Little Elm American Legion Post, and he has long been active in its
volunteer efforts; an initiative especially close to his heart is
the Fallen Soldier Memorial Plaque Program, which pays tribute to
Texans who have lost their lives while serving with the armed forces
in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, An experienced community leader, Mr. Roebken was a
member of the school board for the Little Elm Independent School
District from 1986 to 2002 and spent six years as its president; he
has managed to find time for his many civic contributions in
addition to his professional commitments, which have included
employment as a real estate broker and, more recently, as a mineral
rights landman; and
WHEREAS, Bill Roebken's compassion and dedication are
helping to make Little Elm an even better place to live and work,
and it is a pleasure to join in commending him for his inspiring
record of public service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Bill Roebken on being named the
Little Elm Citizen of the Year for 2008 and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Roebken as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
