H.R. No. 1722
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Frank
Alvarado of Houston, who died on February 11, 2009, at the age of
79; and
WHEREAS, Born in Marble Falls on October 4, 1929, Mr.
Alvarado moved with his family to Houston at an early age; and
WHEREAS, In 1947, he married Ida Melchor, and over the course
of their life together, they were blessed with five children, six
grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Alvarado worked in the construction industry in
Houston for more than 60 years; a skilled cement mason and a proud
member of Plasterers and Cement Masons Local No. 681, he helped to
lay the foundations of many landmark buildings around the city,
including Texas Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital,
Methodist Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital, Finger Furniture,
and a number of buildings on the University of Houston campus; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Alvarado embodied the ideal
of civic engagement, never missing an election and participating
actively in the political process; he attended many Democratic
precinct and senatorial conventions, and he campaigned
energetically for numerous candidates, including his daughter,
State Representative Carol Alvarado; and
WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Mr. Alvarado was a
parishioner of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a member of the
Knights of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, Frank Alvarado lived a life devoted to family,
faith, and community, and the memory of his everyday heroism will be
forever treasured by all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frank Alvarado and
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife
of 61 years, Ida; to his sons, Frank and Robert; to his daughters,
Yolanda, Elizabeth, and Carol; to his six grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in honor of Frank
Alvarado.
