 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Since it was organized on April 13, 1857, the
 American Institute of Architects has grown to become the largest
 and most influential professional association for architects in the
 world, with more than 300 component organizations in the United
 States and abroad, and over 80,000 members; and
 WHEREAS, The Texas Society of Architects, organized in 1939,
 serves as the AIA state component for Texas architects who are
 members of the organization's 17 local chapters, and represents the
 interests of their more than 6,500 members; and
 WHEREAS, Texas architects have long played a significant role
 in developing and enhancing the state's quality of life; applying
 building technology and design innovation, they help create
 attractive, safe, and functional public and private spaces for
 people to occupy; and
 WHEREAS, These esteemed professionals also provide crucial
 stewardship of our great architectural and historic treasures; and
 WHEREAS, With their unique education and training in
 sustainable design, Texas architects benefit the state's built and
 natural environment with thoughtful and ecologically mindful
 design solutions; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize May 4-8, 2009, as Architecture Week
 and acknowledge the important role that Texas architects play in
 envisioning, designing, and building the public and private spaces
 that we occupy daily to live, learn, work, worship, heal, and gather
 in as a community of proud Texans; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Texas Society of Architects and its members as an
 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
