H.R. No. 1740 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Virginia Ramirez, a junior at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School in San Juan, won the 2009 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association 5A state championship in the 123-pound weight class; and WHEREAS, At the state meet, held on March 21 in Corpus Christi, Ms. Ramirez received a gold medal for her combined lift of 675 pounds, distancing herself from her closest competitor by 25 pounds; and WHEREAS, This determined athlete received valuable guidance from Yolanda Gomez, coach of the PSJA powerlifting team, which has been in place for only two years; in winning the state crown, Ms. Ramirez has given a significant boost to the sport at her high school, and she may take justifiable pride in earning a place alongside the finest powerlifters in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Virginia Ramirez on winning the 2009 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association 5A state championship in the 123-pound weight class and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
