44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Virginia Ramirez, a junior at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo
66 High School in San Juan, won the 2009 Texas High School Women's
77 Powerlifting Association 5A state championship in the 123-pound
88 weight class; and
99 WHEREAS, At the state meet, held on March 21 in Corpus
1010 Christi, Ms. Ramirez received a gold medal for her combined lift of
1111 675 pounds, distancing herself from her closest competitor by 25
1212 pounds; and
1313 WHEREAS, This determined athlete received valuable guidance
1414 from Yolanda Gomez, coach of the PSJA powerlifting team, which has
1515 been in place for only two years; in winning the state crown, Ms.
1616 Ramirez has given a significant boost to the sport at her high
1717 school, and she may take justifiable pride in earning a place
1818 alongside the finest powerlifters in the Lone Star State; now,
1919 therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2121 Legislature hereby congratulate Virginia Ramirez on winning the
2222 2009 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association 5A state
2323 championship in the 123-pound weight class and extend to her
2424 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2525 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2626 prepared for Ms. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the
2727 Texas House of Representatives.
