| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Lewis |

| 6 | 6 | | Murl Allen of Jacksonville, who died on April 11, 2009, at the age |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of 80; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, "Shorty" Allen was born to Mason and Alma Allen in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Van on July 8, 1928; in 1949 he was married to the love of his life, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Juanita Keith Allen, and they enjoyed a deeply rewarding union |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | until his passing; over the years, the Allens were blessed with a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | cherished family that included 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 12 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In his devotion to his family, his unfailing |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | kindness and generosity, and his readiness to lend a helping hand to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | anyone in need, Mr. Allen exemplified the greatest qualities of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | heart and character; he was treasured as well for his wise counsel |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and for his instinctive sense of how to offer support and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | encouragement in times of need; his trove of stories, gleaned from a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | lifetime of experience, served to shed a helpful light on many a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | problem, and these fondly recalled tales will continue to buoy the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | spirits of those with whom they were insightfully shared; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Allen worked as a painter before his retirement, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and he was a valued member of the Baptist Church; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A man of infinite decency, Shorty Allen enriched the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | lives of all who were privileged to be a part of his world, and they |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | will forever carry their memories of him close in their hearts; now, |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lewis Murl Allen and |

| 31 | 31 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife |

| 32 | 32 | | of 59 years, Juanita Keith Allen; to his daughters, Cindy Bollinger |
