| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The friends and family of U.S. Army Corporal David |

| 6 | 6 | | McCormick suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this |

| 7 | 7 | | valiant soldier in Iraq on April 28, 2008, at the age of 26; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Corporal McCormick was killed while bravely serving |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | his second tour of duty with the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division; his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | courageous efforts as an army specialist and cavalry scout earned |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | him such honors as the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon, as well as a Bronze Star and a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Purple Heart; and |

| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Bay City, David McCormick was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | born on April 10, 1982, to Leo McCormick, Jr., and Anna McCormick; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he was known for his strong interest in history, his personal code |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of honor, and his patriotism; he joined the army after graduating |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | from Bay City High School in 2000, and he planned to become a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and to earn a business |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | degree at Texas State University; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the United States |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | armed forces, David McCormick inspired others with his fortitude, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | tenacity, and courage, and those who were fortunate enough to know |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | him will forever carry memories of this heroic Texan close in their |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Corporal |

| 30 | 30 | | David McCormick and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his |

| 31 | 31 | | mother, Anna June Staten McCormick; to his brother, Leo William |

| 32 | 32 | | McCormick III; to his sisters, Kristy Davis and her husband, Kelly, |
